So it's actually larger than you'd expect, but you'll have a lot of wasted screen space unless you have square media

The design really doesn't seem strange to me. Yes, there's going to be a lot of wasted space as most projection is going to be roughly 16:9, but they probably wanted the picture to be elevated, which meant getting the top portion of the screen a couple feet off the ground.

So the poles need to be about the size they are. If you cut off the screen for the top portion only, you still have to finish the end (same amount of processing/labor), then you need to make sure the structure is reasonably sturdy. Do you have to add another pole across the bottom of the better fitting screen? Add a bracket to ensure the bottom of the screen stays in place?

The screen gets more complex with more parts pretty fast. Keep it simple is the way to keep it cheap.

Yeah, at 16x9 it will provide about a 65" screen... but it's just weird. I'm considering this for inside our tent, but at five feet tall I don't even think it would work if we set it on top of one of the cots or something with our Kodiak Flexbow 10x14. It would be much better if they'd just lop 40% off the height, and save them money as well.

I had a similar thought, this size does not make any sense. Even if the "screen" was smaller to be 50-55" atleast make the screen fit 16x9 ratio. Maybe 59"59 was better to stand without falling over, but it's just an odd size for anything other then maybe vertical Youtube shorts or tiktok clips.

I ended up ordering one to try anyway. I looked for other options and found a few but they were either incredibly expensive or discontinued. If I was clever I could probably figure out a way to make my own freestanding screen that still packs away easily and compactly. Well, I might be clever enough but I'm lazy. LOL

It is probably made from parts and material they use in other products already, just reconfigured slightly for this.

Maybe. But it still seems strange to use 44% more materials to make something that people are less likely to buy. At any rate I'm certainly surprised that given cheap, compact projectors seem to be becoming more common that there's not more competition in this space.

Mine arrived. It seems like a rough draft.
The screen is badly creased where it was folded and crumpled where it was tied to the folded poles. Maybe I need a steamer.

There's no elastic in the screen mounts so there's nothing pulling the screen flat.

Once I get the screen flat I'm going to wrap it around a tube so it doesn't wrinkle. I'll put one fold in it across the bottom so it's short enough to fit in the storage bag. I think the crease will be below the top 16x9. Fabric covered hairbands will tension the screen.

I'm not sure exactly how, but I'm sure that the support structure could double as a sun shade.

Now I just need a projector.

$26 for stand model
If you look at the smaller model it has terrible reviews.
