Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

I set up the mesh via the wiki. The two satellites disconnect randomly and then reconnects pretty frequently. Anyone else having this issue?
Try disabling Node Steering. (CA>Wi-Fi Settings>Advanced>Node Steering)

I believe what's happening is that Node Steering is causing the mesh nodes to occasionally disconnect and reconnect in an attempt to find the best topology and strongest signal between the nodes.

I had to disable Node Steering, Client Steering and Express Forwarding to get my 5 router+nodes setup to work reliably without frequent disconnects and other odd/funky behavior.

IMO the jury-rigged stock firmware is not optimized for those features and it will cause problems having them enabled if you have a relatively large amount of devices connected and 2 additional mesh nodes; at least it seems that way to me. That's why Linksys does not officially support/confirm that mesh is supported on the LN1301 IMO; it's buggy and the aforementioned features need to be disabled to get reliable performance.

Also, I believe someone here wanted to know how to disable IPv6 but I can't locate their post to reply so I'm leaving the info here. Sorry but I'm lazy and there's 3 different crazily massive threads for the LN1301 and I'm confused laugh out loud

I believe you can disable it by selecting IPv6 in the Internet Settings section, choosing Automatic and deselect the IPv6 - Automatic checkbox then Apply. (CA>Connectivity>Internet Settings>IPv6>Type of Internet Connection>Connection Type *Select Automatic* + IPv6 - Automatic *Uncheck Enable*)

Practically no one is using OpenWRT here. Everyone is using DD-WRT (Tesla) and OpenWRT is the outdated BMW that boomers like because it reminds them of the time when BMW was relevant. 🤫😂

I've read the reddit page of this Linksys MX4300 for OpenWRT and it's a mess. People can't get the wifi to work, let alone mesh. People are talking about following guides and it's still not working right. It's a mess. No thanks.
Uhh... Tell me you don't know what you're talking about without saying you don't know what you are talking about.

If you can't follow this guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/openwrt/...0_linksys/
then I guess you can't be helped. The guide makes it look even harder than it is...

Step 1. Download from arix00's repository. Step 2. Install/reboot. That easy...

Seems many also have trouble with the child nodes with ethernet backhaul. I'll quote myself for some context.

So last night after restarting one of the child nodes for the 3rd time, it showed that it connected via Ethernet. Then hours later I checked again and it went back to wifi for whatever reason. Just for fun this morning, I moved the Ethernet backhaul cable from the WAN port to LAN on that child node. Powered off and on and it reconnected over Ethernet. It reconnected much more quickly too - the red light blinked 3 times and it turned solid blue.

Relocated the Ethernet cable from the WAN port to the 3rd LAN port and the connection switched from WiFi to wired in the app. It's been 24 hours and it's stable so far.
It seems people were avoiding switching from WAN to LAN on child node for the wired backhaul because it breaks the mesh functionality (i.e. it's just another AP)?

Having an issue trying to connect the 3rd node in mesh mode.

Have the first 2 working fine, went through the mesh setup through CA>Connectivity>CA Router Setup> Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.

Everything went fine for the first 2, but the 3rd router I can't get it to sync properly.
- Also performed hard reset back to factory settings
- Went through the same CA>Connectivity>etc... but nothing happens after I'm done, no flashing lights or anything, light stays purple
- No changes, as if it's not responding to enabling the Wired and Wireless Nodes

Not sure what else to do, has anyone experienced similar issue or know of other ideas I can try?

Are you disconnecting the other two nodes when you are adding the 3rd node? If not, disconnect everything else. Another thing to try: click the Add Wireless node button first, wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable and then click Add Wired button.

I don't care about open source routerware
The stupid issue with this router is it has 3 downlink Ethernet ports instead of the industry standard 4
I put my TM ac1900 back to work just because I absolutely need those 4 Ethernet downlink ports in addition to the 1 uplink
You can't afford a network switch for like $15? In fact you can probably just put your old router into AP mode, disable the wifi, and just use it as a network switch.

Disconnected all other nodes, tried clicking the Add Wireless Node first and vice versa, nothing.

Now I see the purple lights flashing after configuration but then it goes back to a solid purple light after a few minutes. It doesn't turn to the solid blue light to turn into mesh mode, it won't get out of the configuration stage. It's finally connecting to the configuration I'm sending but it's not applying the changes.

I would try setting up that problem node as the parent, see it works properly in that role to rule out it's defective and to see if the other 3 would work as nodes.

No clue, all I know is I'm getting 350mbps all across the house regardless which one I'm connected to, and I only pay for 300mbps, so whether it's mesh or AP, I'm happy bc something is working lol.

Isn't having a bunch of APs with wired backhaul better than mesh? You can still have 802.11r fast roaming and band steering enabled (with OpenWrt anyway) so that clients will end up on the best node.

Eventually replaced my Asus Ax86U AiMesh
to LinkSys Stock FW w/ 2 Mesh Nodes (total 3 routers).

Now found dramatic speed slowdown: from 250M bps -> 70M bps

I don't know what's the reason. Of course the modem or cable program didn't change over the router replacement.

Any clues?
