R8 was as low as $470 in the past. I would wait if you're not in a rush

I've had a few Escort and V1 radars. I live out west and currently use the R8 it's been a great detector and the interface is great.

Excuse my ignorance, but do these actually work? Would anyone say these are 90% reliable if police are using speed guns? Does it matter on which type they use? Which state your in if it works? Can you go "too fast" that these don't allow you to slow down before you're scanned by the police? I've always been interested but figured there's no way these would actually work. Thanks
All I can say is the cops I know won't let you off if they see you with one when you get pulled over. They all say your using proffesional equipment, so here's your ticket.....of course a lot of them use them though. I remeber befor laser got big when I had one, and always hid it after thinking I got caught, just in case. The game is much harder now with Laser...the detector just lets you know you have been tagged, or the car in front or behind you, do to scattering, but thats even very minimal.

They help if you're smart. If you're on a flat road, going 50 over the speed limit and the cop is using laser, you're cooked, mainly because once laser hits you, it's game over. If you're on a highway, going with the flow, 20 over, and a cop is using a radar gun, this will alert you with enough time to not get pulled over. Is it worth it, that depends on you. The cost of one ticket plus the 3 years of insurance hikes will be roughly double or triple the cost of this.
Long long ago when laser was pretty new my detector went off I slowed down, but didn't see anything it stopped going off, the. went around a curve and it went off again. There in the ditch was a cop. My best guess was the laser hit the side of semi going around the corner that was way ahead of me. Tl:dr got lucky.

The semi is exactly what late Radar Roy called a rabbit.

THat's why you must have a quick exit strategy if you get nailed and pulled over. Immediately rip that shit from the mount and stash it under the seat. Make sure you use a concealed cable or ditch the cord as well. A visible cord is a dead giveaway. Just as bad as having the detector in plain sight. Practice your exit strategy a few times for max preparation of shit hitting fan. Preparation is key. Smilie

I mean that's a really vague statement. If you want to argue against using cheaper radars feel free to point out something specific in their function or usability. I've used the DFR7, R3 before now and haven't had a situation where I'm like, damn, I wish I had more range/newer detector/bluetooth etc...
if you read the comment I was replying to, it is less vague.

but, anyway, I'm not going to argue. I think even if you did not read the comment I was replying to, my statement is pretty valid. basically the better the radar detector, the less likely you are to get caught speeding. if you are going to buy a radar detector, why buy a cheap one that is less likely to protect you.

Unless you're a hot woman, cops aren't going to let you off regardless. Your chances are better if you don't get pulled over in the first place.

As for lasers, getting the alert helps you minimize the damage. If you're accelerating and they tag you, you could let off the accelerator and avoid getting a heftier ticket.

Sounds like you need to do some reading on your own.

No, these don't work at all, people just like to spend 500 dollars to support the company.

Plus if the cops catch you using one of the units, they are less likely to cut you a break.

If you have a woman in the car, get her to scream at you for getting pulled over while the cop is around. The cop might cut you a break just for being with a Karen.

The apps are great because you can customize filtering and make the detector much less chatty.
