I feel old now because I remember friends bringing over a shareware floppy of Wolf3D and playing it when I was in either Jr High or High School. Somewhere along the line I got my hands on the full game and I just remember laughing at things like mecha-hitler. I also remember playing RTCW in college when I probably should have been doing other things. Think that was one of the first times I ever had to upgrade a video card because the fog effects it used were too much. I also remember the multiplayer, which I guess has been spun off into a separate game now, and running up to pillbox bunkers, throwing a grenade through the firing slit, and almost always managing to frag someone.

The newer Wolfeinstein games just seem to take themselves a little too seriously. They're better in pretty much every single technical aspect you can name, but they just don't seem to have that sort of tongue-in-cheek campy feel the older ones did. Even RTCW, which was kind of the first effort to add some story telling to the franchise, still had a lot of ridiculous bosses as a kind of nod back to its roots. Still for like $6 or less, it's hard to go too wrong. You have fun for an hour or two, it's a better value than going to a movie.

Loved all of the mainline games but haven't tried Youngblood. Reviews turned me off but at this price is it any good?

Return to Castle Wolfenstein and 9800 Pro flashed to 9800XT were good times.

Agree 100%. There was a RTCW called Wild West where you could play sheriff vs banditos which made us forget the main game altogether. Used to play it all the time in my dorm

I was already interested you don't need to sell me on it!

I enjoyed New Colossus, I guess I should probably get New Order.

It was a decent game. I enjoyed it. For $5 it's worth it.

I remember downloading Wolfenstein 3D on to like 2 dozen floppies, the download seemed to take days over dialup but was probably less. Was worth the effort back then.

Wolfenstein 3D was the first PC game I ever played in the early 90's. I bet it still holds up today.

Looks like GOG is also one of the "various retailers" with these on sale.

Take a look at Brutal Wolfenstein 3D if the classic is not enough.

Of course you'll get massively downvoted, but I kind of agree. I started New Colossus a couple years ago, and the very beginning was just sort of sick. Really not necessary. Blood/gore with today's graphics is a LOT different than what it was 15-20 years ago.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein was great. Sort of hard. Used quick save a lot ha

I played the multiplayer version of rtcw called enemy territory in high school and it was amazing. Some of my most fun playing online multiplayer shooters. Rtcw gameplay is pretty similar.
