Most BANKS use a system called Chex https://www.chexsystems.com/ to check your history related to deposit-accounts (checking, savings). Your Chex history has info like how many deposit accounts you had opened within the past 1 months, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 24 months. Some banks use the info to weed out the "churners". Some banks' criteria are stricter than others. Your Chex history also shows how many times you had overdrawn, wrote bad checks, etc. The BANKS don't really care about your credit history unless you're applying for credit cards. For some reasons, many Credit Unions pull your credit history even when applying for deposit accounts.

US Bank is pretty lenient about which deposits are considered DDs. Lots of people on www.doctorofcredit.com [doctorofcredit.com] reported that ACH transfers from Ally, Chase, CapOne, etc were accepted as DDs to get the bonus. I just opened a US Bank Smartly Checking on 9/24/24 on a promo (expired 9/26) that gives $450 bonus for $8000+ total in DDs within 90 days. I pushed $4100 from Ally to US Bank on 9/26. Will do another one in early October.
$400 is a good bonus, but $5000/90 days in DD is a pretty high hurdle, but doable for me.

- Paid biweekly.
- Week 1-2: $0.01 from first paycheck just to make sure the direct deposit posts. (I always do that)
- Week 3-12: $1000 each from the next five paychecks.

84 days max. If that first penny doesn't post though, I'm screwed out of the $400.

Think I may go for the Truist deal instead. $500 in DD is easier.

Do any of these bank promos require a credit inquiry? Frozen all my credit accounts, and prefer not to unfreeze if not necessary.

Of course they do. l know you were hoping someone would tell you "no". ,🤣

I was hoping somebody who knows for sure (i.e. somebody who has actually opened one of these bank accounts), and isn't guessing, would answer.

I opened a US Bank Checking account on 9/24/24 and they did not access my credit files.

Rule #1 when doing bank bonuses is NOT to call the bank and ask if certain ACH transfers will qualify as Direct Deposits. That will give them a hint that people are trying to circumvent their DD requirements and they will tighten up their rules. Use the link to doctorofcredit in my post on 9/28 to see datapoints from people who had successess or failures with ACH from various banks to US Bank.

Doing an ACH from CapOne is like you describled. For me, I'm doing ACH from my Ally Savings to US Bank. The 1st one was done in Sept and was recorded as "Deposit" (not Transfer). I will do the 2nd one next week, and wait to see if US Bank will pay out the bonus.
So I did the transfer method from Cap1 after verifying the deposits, but in my US Bank it shows: "Electronic Deposit" ...and when I click in it, under "Trasnaction Type" it reads: Deposit.

Does that mean it's a direct deposit or it didn't work?

Since it reads "Deposit" and not "Transfer", that's a good sign. The two attachments below show the transactions when I did a US Bank deal in March 2019 for a $250 bonus if two Direct Deposits totaling $1000+ were made. The account was opened on 3/5/19 with an initial deposit of $25. The next day there were two trial deposits from Ally Bank. Then the day after that there were two transfers from Ally ($1000 and $500) which were recorded as Electronic Deposit. On 4/9/19 the $250 bonus was received, listed as Adjusted Interest.

I'm using two $4100 Transfers from Ally (in Sept and Oct) for my current US Bank deal for the $450 bonus. I'll post in November whether or not they pay out the bonus.

If that's the case, hopefully it should work with me. I'll give it a try and see. Thanks.

Quick question: my wife and I both share the same Cap1 savings account. If she were to create a US Bank acc and transfer, would she qualify too?

Sorry, I don't know the answer. Personally I'd use different accounts.

The new Smartly card will get 4% cb only when paired with a Savings account with a daily balance of $100,000 or more. US bank savings account rates are pitiful unless you keep $25,000 or more AND have a Smartly Checking account. Too many requirements.

Oh that's too bad. Can't link to brokerage like bofa?

I tried to apply for this. It asked for my ZIP code (I am in FL) and whether I was a US Bank customer (I am not), then said not available in my area. So apparently not working in FL.
