Most BANKS use a system called Chex https://www.chexsystems.com/ to check your history related to deposit-accounts (checking, savings). Your Chex history has info like how many deposit accounts you had opened within the past 1 months, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 24 months. Some banks use the info to weed out the "churners". Some banks' criteria are stricter than others. Your Chex history also shows how many times you had overdrawn, wrote bad checks, etc. The BANKS don't really care about your credit history unless you're applying for credit cards. For some reasons, many Credit Unions pull your credit history even when applying for deposit accounts.

You can request a free copy of your Chex report from the link above. Here's sample of a Chex Report https://www.chexsystems.com/-/med...B8B1FB087C
US Bank is pretty lenient about which deposits are considered DDs. Lots of people on www.doctorofcredit.com [doctorofcredit.com] reported that ACH transfers from Ally, Chase, CapOne, etc were accepted as DDs to get the bonus. I just opened a US Bank Smartly Checking on 9/24/24 on a promo (expired 9/26) that gives $450 bonus for $8000+ total in DDs within 90 days. I pushed $4100 from Ally to US Bank on 9/26. Will do another one in early October.
$400 is a good bonus, but $5000/90 days in DD is a pretty high hurdle, but doable for me.

- Paid biweekly.
- Week 1-2: $0.01 from first paycheck just to make sure the direct deposit posts. (I always do that)
- Week 3-12: $1000 each from the next five paychecks.

84 days max. If that first penny doesn't post though, I'm screwed out of the $400.

Think I may go for the Truist deal instead. $500 in DD is easier.

Looks like the 450 hit my account already. It's listed as "adjusted interest". I opened on 9/3 and finished my DD on 9/30. So the bonus hits about 2 weeks after. I guess I can cut the account now?

Annoying, I did this and denied. They told me since I had a previous savings acct I was ineligible

I opened this smartly account at branch and told me I was eligible.

Fik em
Closing account

Opened keybank, got a deposit going on 1st, I get 300 bonus there

Opened chase bank, next December 1st, deposit there, 300,

And I'm doing Huntington bank for 400 after.

Once I get my deposits I'm closing them down. May keep chase tho. Idk yet.

Chase vs us bank, got us bank at my grocery store but kinda upset they lied to me

Wanted to add a data point as I was seeing a lot of negative comments on another thread. I got my $450 bonus today. I opened the account back in July and did DD with my employer. No issues. Maybe this is relevant, but I was using the account to pay bills so there was a lot of movement going as opposed to just having money sit there waiting for the bonus to hit.

They told me I was eligible, wasted dd's in it to be told oh since you're existing customer you don't get it

I'm telling them close my account, been w them a few years. I was lied too, rather use chase now since it happened.

Opened a chase account. Only reason I had us bank as it's at my grocery store lol kinda convenient

What triggers the SB 10,000 actually posting? I've had the little orange pending clock thingy in my account since 9/6, but nothing shows in the pending area at top. I opened 9/6, deposited $100 with a transfer, and have done 2 "DD"'s (pushes) totalling $4k+. I'll get the other $4k in next month.
The account was not approved instantly, and the $100 shows as Telephone Assisted Transfer. Lurking on DoC, it seems some are only getting the SB to post after DDing $8k. I don't want to have to contact SB if it might take care of itself.

As pointed out here you may have to open a CD first to get into their system if you're from a state without their footprint

Credit card cb and sign-up bonus are not taxable because they require you to spend a certain amount and the IRS considers them "rebates". Most Bank/C.U. bonuses only require deposits so are not considered "rebates" and are taxable. The offer terms usually spell out whether or not it's taxable.

It's up to you. Some banks/CU will claw back the bonus if the account was closed within xx days of opening. Even if they don't clawback, they might add negative comments to your Chex Report https://www.chexsystems.com/ which banks/CU often use when considering an application for a new deposit account. I don't "burn the bridge" quickly because I want to do the bonus again with the same bank after xx months. I usually leave an account open 6 months or more before closing.

Can anyone comment if an application would cause a Hard Credit Inquiry?

I applied in Sept and was approved. No Credit Inquiry (hard or soft). For deposit accounts (not credit cards) they only pull your Chex Report, which has info about your past/current bank accounts, bad checks, overwithdrawals, etc.

Same here. I met the requirements for the $450 offer and received it two weeks later as adjusted interest. Easy peasy 👍. Although I'm going to hold on to it because the checking account is free if you have one of their credit cards (I have USBAR).
