It's a yay from me. I have owned one of these for about 2 years and paid retail for it at the time. Really happy with this unit- particularly getting DIRAC at this price level. Mine is used for home theater and music listening in an acoustically tough room using 5.2 setup. DIRAC and vocal boost have been a game changer for our home theater viewing.

App works but UI and appearance are still a bit old-school but I feel like all receiver apps kind of are clunky.

The internal DAC is quite good. I've got a WiiM for streaming/app UI ease, and own a Geshelli J2 DAC plus a Denafrips Ares II DAC. Slight preference for the Denafrips over the Integra but man it's close. Integra DAC sounds similar to the Geshelli to my ear streaming hi-res from Amazon Music- and that's a good thing.

Make sure to update the firmware as soon as you get it- makes a big difference and irons out the operation.

Not sure I really need to but I am using a separate amp for my mains, so the pre-outs are great for my use.

This unit is very similar to the Onkyo RZ-50.

Happy to field any questions if anybody has any.

I had one for 2 days but it kept turning the volume all the way up on its own. Thankfully I had the remote in my hand at the 2 times that it did it and immediately shut it off. Sent it back.

It depends on whether you need more than 9 channels.
This adds preouts for the 9 channels which the 7100 doesn't but lacks 11 channel processing of the RZ50.

Keep in mind like those two, it also has mono/parallel sub outs and does not offer Dirac's subwoofer RC(DLBC) integration/correction.

The RZ50 is scheduled to get the option to DLBC here soon, my guess will be when the new RZ30 comes out and gets it.
Not sure how DLBC will work with parallel/mono sub outs on the RZ50 but we will see.

Is this a pre-Dirac era Onkyo/Integra/Pioneer AVR?

i don't see the rz50 being worth more than $399, either.

these receivers are feature-limited to the point of being crippled, and they have that problem with the power output cutting itself way down, with no notice and for no apparent reason.

the Integra DRX-8.4/onkyo rz70 are a big step up, different designs from the cheaper receivers, the rz70 for instance tests out really well.

now that we know what the upcoming rz30 is bringing to the table, it's worth waiting for a deal on that, or an rz70-grade receiver.

the industry will keep up this current price-whoring on these cheap weak designs, trying to get people to by the old junk before the rz30 hits the streets... black friday could be interesting.

It used to be the "Higher end" of Onkyo. Now they are a stand-alone manufacturer. Both brands (Onkyo & Integra) are great.

The RZ30 is $1200 on preorder though, this model is $650... are you saying the RZ30 will on performance and features be worth $550 more than this unit?
