Are these really $1500 brand new? What's special about 'em besides the Van Halen theme? Are they good compared to like a MIA strat?

I've never played one, but a primary difference between a MIA Strat and this is that this comes with a Floyd Rose. Which will allow you to do more "Van Haleny sounds" than if you had a standard tremelo. Depends on what you're looking for in that regard I suppose.

You know "it" was, if you mean His "Frankie" in the Smithsonian. Thus an eStratBay guitar can easily be made into a closer approximation. Especially the original '83 Krammer head, as seen in 83' VH youtube concert video. The head stock shape on $69 ebay ones match that Krammer, not hockey stick Krammer, in the later 5150 Frankie. But the early classic VH hits. Eddie had many guitars. The Frankie started black, as a blem "boogie" body. And not well said, it was a basswood (at least in the SmithS); meaning after after VH was discovered and signing on with Fender, until changing. Left Krammer later. Etc..Music man guitars, thus the new non-classic shape, now EVH guitars are made by Fender.

Oh, and the relic look is cool. I saw one just like that at a garage sale for $5. LOL.

And a Floyd is an option, not a rule. A classic Trem (no extra charge) is no disadvantage once it's setup. An definite original Frankie authentic. Yet so are many Frankie variations, so pick your poison. Kinda like the original Fender Strat itself, which one 50's, 60's, or...and what options, styles, finishes, and parts?

Eventually you find yourself and realize you have been you, always. Hopefully improved, LOL. Like Eddie practiced; that's the point.

I'll never understand the appeal of "relic" series, but apparently some folks dig it.

Never played this one but the WG Specials play very nice and the D'Tuna is pretty cool if you play in Drop D frequently.

I swear Iconian challenges myself control on a regular basis and I seem to fail said challenge way too frequently.

They have the appeal of pick-up-and-play without any commitment or worry about abuse to the instrument because you really couldn't tell if it got nicked or had a new dent. You just get the simple joy of playing without putting the instrument on a pedestal.

So I should buy a beat up car at full price? Me, personally feel every knick should come with a badge of shame from the accidental damage.

Its seems closer to "stolen Valor" than "peace of mind" to me.
