A good rule of thumb with anything refrigerating device is to let it sit for 24 hours after delivery to let the coolant and compressor oil settle. After 24 hours of sitting upright and level in the place, it will be in use, then plug it in.

During transportation, these fluids shift around, and if plugged in like that, the oil can block the refrigerant from circulating properly, inadequate lubrication of the compressor causing damage, and decrease efficiency.

I'm pretty positive all of the complaints that we are seeing here are exactly caused by this small detail.

Samsung are some of the worst as far as fridges.

Not to be an a-hole, but I'd probably find a new repairman if I were you. They're clearly not very experienced.

Samsung and LG make nice fridges but...reliable?? Samsung fridges are widely regarded as some of the most problematic [usatoday.com] fridges on the market. LG has literally had multiple class-action [consumerreports.org]lawsuits, including another one filed just this year [nbcwashington.com], regarding its faulty compressors.

I'm not saying I wouldn't buy fridges from either brand, but it's definitely misinformed if not disingenuous to say 2 of the least reliable fridge brands on the market are the most reliable.

Yes, but the price tag offsets this to the max. For six hundred dollars, even if it craps out in a few years, it is still an amazing deal.
The price is definitely great deal but, personally, had I known that I'll be having so many issues, I would've paid more for a better brand. In the past few months, the maximum time it worked is two weeks then it's down for over a month till the repair is done. Really frustrating.

I'm in the market for a new fridge, oven, and microwave. Current kitchen setup is about 30 years old, Kenmore, and never seen a repair man. Everything has just worked. Now they are breaking down one by one. Microwave first couple of months ago, then the oven last week, only the fridge is going strong.

All these comments about LG, Samsung, etc, scare me. What is a good, reliable setup?

I'm not saying price is no object, but I'm saying I might pay the price to last another 30 years.

I've had this unit since it came out several years back, $1199. Never a moments trouble, crammed full. You may buy one and it croak. I just bought another for my car hole at this price.

Every fridge under $2000 is pretty much same quality. GE, samsung and lg all have their issues. I just bought the on sale models from Costco and hope it last for five years.
Hope? i got a 5 year warranty with the Costco fridge for $149.

I bought this last year at $1200. It is slightly louder than I like, and it seems to be running more often than idling. The LED lights are in the back so some places may not be well lit. I prefer plastic shelves over glass shelves (which this one has). Otherwise it is working well and it can definitely hold a lot.

It's not the brand of fridges. It's the type of fridges. French Doors are the worst, but everyone likes them. Side by sides without the door mounted ice makers are the best fridges. Like some said, the simpler the fridge, the longer it'll last.

I bought their cheapest one in August 2020 and it's been going in a garage that gets over 100F for 4 years without a hiccup.

They all pretty well suck at this point... many of the issues have to do with all of the energy savings regulations. While a good idea in principle, they've cause many manufacturers to go to much more complicated designs. The class action suits against LG seem to the result of LG having to go away from standard, tried and true compressor technology to more energy efficient (and more complicated) variable speed, electronically controlled compressors. New tech... new problems.

Similarly, many of the failing components in dishwashers, washers and dryers are the result of complex systems designed to save gas and/or electricity as well as water.

Great idea to try to save energy... except when it results in large numbers of dead appliances.
Filling up landfills with junk appliances doesn't impact your election chances. Fighting "climate change" does. It's that simple.

According to the energy PDF listed on the page this model is not energy star complaint. Also the PDF showed the energy use and it had a bar. to the left it said saves most energy, to the right side uses most energy and a little arrow is marked all the way to the right so it looks like this model uses a lot of electricity

I have a 10 year old Amana that looks pretty much like this except it has an ice maker. Still works!
I do miss when whirlpool used to use the more adjustable shelving system wherw the shelves had metal frames and clipped onto a rack on the back wall. These newer fridges all have plastic channels on the walls that the shelves slide into. Not nearly as nice! But they're all like that now 😭

How do y'all maintain garage fridges?
