Any ceramic kamado is going to be superior to this. This is not made to be a stationary kamado like ceramics. This is light enough to transport, and versatile like a kamado, but not near the heat retention or insulation you get from ceramic.

A kamado grill is a kamado grill. They are all relatively equal in heat retention department. If there is a difference, it's negligible. Where they differ are the accessories. Green Egg is priced to up sell you on accessories. Kamado Joe comes with mostly needed accessories. Green Egg will bleed you dry on accessories.

It's not completely ceramic but does have ceramic inlays, unless I'm just reading the specs.

Tempting. I used to have a SNS Kettle Grill and loved it for steaks, chicken and any other non-long cooks (I have a smoker as well). I switched to a Recteq Bullseye and it's just simply not the same flavor.

Different tools for different jobs.

It comes down to efficiency, most efficient to least:
1. Pellet grills
2. Kamados
3. Kettles
4. Stick burners / offsets

More efficient means less fuel, air and smoke 💨 moving across your food.

For pellet grills lower the temp the less efficient to a point also a simple smoke tube if used right with quality pellets and wood chips helps get closer on long cooks.

There is limits to all tools, it's fun to experiment.

Green egg are fully ceramic vs. This one is metal with ceramic inserts.
Much better heat retention with full ceramic. Kamado Joe has full ceramic models just not this one.

Okay but that shape is a little weird.

Edit: Okay I see that it's an insert called the SloRoller. Seems like some kind of way to further place the food away from the heat for better indirect cooking. I see that hinge really wearing fast from a lot of adjustment but otherwise solid piece of kit.
