Yeah watched a few YouTube reviews of snapdragon, it's too early but very promising. It'll be like Apple's ARM chips.

Disagree. These are great machines for a lot of people.
People like my wife, they spend hours every day working on email and other light office work. The entirety of which is done in the browser. She doesn't even need to install any other applications. For people like her (which is honestly most consumers) this is a great device. Plenty of power for supported applications, and an incredible battery life.

How would they be for someone with a good desktop computer? I would mostly use my desktop for gaming, or stream from the desktop locally. I imagine I could just remote into my desktop if I have any compatibility issues.

Mostly looking for something I can bring outdoors for productivity (word documents, reading, emails) or maybe play a game of Dota 2 when staying away from home.

LTT described its Solidworks performance as "usable (barely)"

https://youtu.be/zFMTJm3vmh0?si=l...XyzH&t=206

there's no ARM build for solidworks so it has to run through the compatibility layer which brings a pretty significant performance hit.
If you're spending more than a couple hours per week in solidworks on your laptop I'd probably look at something else.

Then get a MacBook Air (mature, well supported and in the event you WANT to run some random app, the Mac can do it).

I'm not pushing Mac saying it's better than Windows, but in your wife's scenario, everything she does in a browser can be done on a MacBook which I would go as far as to say it's a better laptop.

BUT, if you can get this cheap enough (fire sale), then that closes the gap a bit as MacBooks would be more expensive.

You're describing a Chromebook though. These snapdragon PCs need to do better.

This is a fantastic deal. This screen is one of the best out there. The laptop is light, sleek and looks polished. I have been using it since launch and it has been flawless. My use case - MS Office mostly, browsing, videos. Most of my apps worked for me, even couple VPNs. The ones that did not work - Box Drive, some games. No problem connecting other hardware, printers, mouse, webcam, monitors. After using it for a week initially, this became my primary. Its fast, snappy, boots fast, long battery life, superb screen and the best part for me was it hardly gets warm compared to my previous AMD which would get hot in minutes.

This one looks more like Samsung price cut to score some extra sales/revenue as their business is struggling in many areas (smart phones especially..)

the problem is, intel lunar lake beat the snapdragon elite both in performance and efficiency, matching the apple M4, with native X86-64 to boot.

why bother getting the window RT 2.0 when the real windows get just as good battery life and every application run natively

You are basically describing a Chromebook which can be had for much less.
If you do want something better than a Chromebook, the Intel lunar lake processor is here. It offers all of the advantages of snapdragon (powerful and great battery life) and zero compatibility issues. It will make these arm processors obsolete soon.

In single core benchmarks, maybe, but multi-core scores are much higher on the Snapdragon and Apple. And I think ARM is still more effiencient than LL.

Oh that's good to know! I haven't done any research on the next Intel chips. Thanks.
