It's something i would've been interested in but all the reviews say it runs VERY hot even in climate controlled rooms.

Just FYI their warranty won't cover anything affected by power-related events. Had a Zyxel XGS1250, the 10 Gbps Port stopped working after a power outage, also saw other people posted the same issue on Reddit. This was what their CS replied:

To investigate if the issue is hardware-related, we can offer an RMA for further examination. Please be aware that units affected by power-related events, such as power outages or power surges, may be considered as out-of-warranty cases. You can refer to our warranty page for more information.

Seems like a sound warranty policy.

warranty is a seller's promise that the thing being sold is as promised or represented. no product warranty covers damage outside of specified usage, aka.. power surge, or fire, or liquid damage, or use it outside of the operational temperature range...

There are a lot of options in this price range. I picked up something similar for about $80 a year or so ago. It only has one SFP+ port, though.

I own one of their 8 port poe switches and haven't had issues. The interface is extremely simple, doesn't offer https, and I think there has only been one update for it but it works...

Yes, great policy to use as an excuse to deny most/all warranty claims and there's nothing you can do about it except complain and get mad.

Most warrantys dont cover power surges / lightning / acts of god.
"An act of God is an event that is outside of human control or activity, such as a natural disaster like a flood or earthquake. In legal terms, an act of God is an event for which individuals are not responsible and cannot be held legally liable for loss of life, injury, or property damage. "

Well, normal warranty shouldn't cover any of those extreme cases or accidental damages. But in 2024 if I know something (except hard drives) won't survive in a power down I will not buy it.

the issues is that this is a not a normal power down. those switches don't have a power off sequence, some doesn't even have a on/off switch, it turns on the moment power is supplied, and it turns off when you yank the power. if power down the switch cause port to malfunction, it would malfunction long time ago, everytime you plug or unplug the power, and if that's how it was broken, it should be an warranty item
the issues is that some thing happened to the power grid that sent a surge of power either result from the power loss, or when the power was reapplied, that seem to be the issues redditor was experiencing, and nothing can help you with that, you need a power surge protector or UPS, and fill claim to the surge protector or UPS

You can find many models of 8 x 2.5G + dual 10G switch now under $80. Checkout ServeTheHome videos or roundup articles on their website. In short, this one only has two 2.5G ports, not a competitive deal. For small business or prosumer values stability, Mikrotik CRS310-8G+2S+IN (8x2.5 + 2x10G) is a better option.

Hopefully other companies dont follow suit. When I tell TP-Link that all my network equipment and the devices they're connected to are on UPSes, they generally take the RMA without question.

It's an eight port 1GbE switch with two 2.5GbE RJ45 ports and two 10G SFP+ ports. It's not a bad price assuming it works and fits your needs, but there will likely be better options at that price point soon.
Edit: A lot of reviews mention this switch gets dangerously hot. AVOID!

Not sound at all in this case - this is likely an engineering issue/product flaw, and they're using their warranty to shield themselves from covering the units under warranty. As another poster mentioned "power outage" is like turning the device off. When power's restored, yes, there's an expected inrush of current, but we all live in a home filled with electronics and appliances which don't die every time our neighborhoods experience a power outage, etc.
Yes, you should have your electronics on a power-protecting/conditioning device, optimally a UPS, but unless everyone's going to run out and buy an in-line/double-conversion UPS, guess what, you're still experiencing some variance from "clean" power, and apparently Zyxel is voiding people's warranties for that.
That's ridiculous.
I was excited when I saw this, as I've been happy w/ Zyxel's stuff over the decades, but instead of paying a lawyer and/or policy maker to shore up their legal agreement, they should have spent the money on the power handling of their device, so it could function for consumers in consumer-grade environments, not the expectation of conditioned power. Hard pass for that.

For what it's worth, I got a managed 8x2.5GbE RJ45, 1x10GbE SFP+ from Ali Express for around $55. Search Ali for "HORACO 2.5GbE Managed Switch 8 Port" to find the listing.

I've had it for a month or two. The web UI isn't great. But so far it seems to work fine. I got it to use VLAN tagging with my home lab (Proxmox cluster).
