Thanks OP! I just added a google voice number to my google account and ported that in. Takes no time at all. You'll need to go to GV settings and pay $3.00 to unlock the number. You'll also need to enable the "Call to Listen" setting under Voicemail which will let you set a PIN which Metro will ask for. You'll also need the google account number which is just the phone number.

I was wondering about this myself. I am genuinely interested in what benefits could be had by having multiple few-year-old phone models on active lines. Is it really to get a phone to trade?

Even if someone does buy an iPhone 12 or 13 with the intent to trade, carrier promos tend to be $70 (or higher) postpaid plans and, often, for 36 months of bill credits (though I think T-mobile does 24 months). Even a monthly charge of $50 * 36 months is $1800 total paid, plus probably tax on a phone that is at the cheapest, $800 for the regular iPhone 16. Which doesn't seem to be any better than buying an iPhone 16 for $829 or a Pro for $1000 up front and getting a more economical phone plan. Particularly since they might be paying anywhere between $75 (for the iPhone 12) to about $180 with tax for this iPhone 13 deal.
Many people here including myself pay less than $20/line on a postpaid family plan. A single-line person wouldn't really benefit from this.

There was a recent competitive Pixel trade in deal at Best Buy.

People who traded in an iPhone 12 (which was the same price at this iPhone 13 a few weeks back) got a Pixel 9 as a straight trade.

$175 for a brand new Pixel 9 isn't bad.

Other people use them as trade ins for carrier deals because they either have grandfather plans or someone else paying the bill (expensing to work) and for them, $175 for an iPhone 16 Pro on a two-year T-Mobile contract is a good deal.

It's all about individual circumstances.

Now that stock on the iPhone 11 is gone at Metro and the iPhone 12 is very thin, the iPhone 13 is likely going to be their "deal" phone for the next 12 months or so. I'd expect the iPhone 12 to fall off their lineup after the holidays.

The SE3 will probably be the free iPhone and the iPhone 13 the entry level w/upcharge.

You open a Metro account. Metro is prepaid and completely separate from your T-Mobile service.

If the iphone 12 deal was any indicator these will sell out. Picked up one to add to the 2 iphone 12s I already have. MKSD 5.6 worked on the Metro iphone 12 on ios 17.5. Thanks OP!
Hope it works on this one too

Ok, I can see why it would work in a situation where you're already going to be paying $20 to remain on your existing phone plan, and meanwhile, you get the phone upgrade. Thanks.
