Meh, I'll bite. Tired of spending the big bucks on the top model, only to have driveshaft failure after about a year. It's happened to me about 4 times already...

the one with the giant screw on head is the E series. yes gunk can get into the base of the giant screw on part and get moldy. But I find the E series with a much stronger motor with angled brush head and are much better at cleaning my teeth. I just unscrew the head about once a week and rinse it out with water and let the inside dry out. no more mold and much better cleaning.

The one with the giant screw on heads? If yes, I'd say upgrade. Otherwise, not worth upgrading.

Does anyone think this is worth an upgrade? I use the older Philips white Sonicare model with the wireless charging base.

No. Don't fix what ain't broke.

I had an older pro model and it broke after several years of sharing with my wife. Before it broke I bought one of these budget models. I conducted a comparison test and it's not even close. Aside from the lack of features the most noticeable difference is the weaker motor. My teeth felt cleaner with the pro model. The pro model also feels more sleek and sturdy while the budget just feels like it's there.

I miss my pro model and can't wait till it goes in sale again. My budget model will then become my travel toothbrush

***EDIT***
Sorry I misread your post. Yes replace it.

These are much better than the big screw on ones, which get moldy fast

Is this one weak like the 1100 but just has the pressure sensing and the low power mode? I have a 4100 and a 1100 and the 1100 is definitely weaker. It vibrates at a slightly higher frequency but with a noticable lower amplitude.

Yeah you need a wall wart now. But, the older plug in charger works fine with this if you have one.

Do you sometimes use it instead of a sledgehammer?

Maaaan I don't know what the deal is. My wife has her unit from the second package and it's in perfect condition so I'm thinking maybe my teeth have the natural frequency of the sonicare's assembly torque specs.
