Heads up, these are very cool little machines but they WILL BREAK. One or both of the sides for the flavoring will eventually stop dispensing and any replacement they send you will do the same. I'm on my third (second warranty replacement) and I expect it to happen again. There's a reddit thread about this as well: search for "Ninja Thisti - Right side does not dispense flavor from pod"
As for the CO2, you can use Sodastream or Simplisoda canisters but the machine will tell you the CO2 is low all the time when you do - even with a new, full one. Only the Ninja canisters work with the white/orange light that indicates when the canister is low.
Another thing to know is the flavor pods can be refilled with MIO or other water drops, just pop the lid off a blue pod (white lid doesn't dispense enough since it's an essence/la croix type drop) and rinse and fill.

I've both refilled the bottles myself and used the soda stream refills with no issues, including no issues with the light.

This is awesome, I've had my machine for over 6 months and love it but we are a small family. Only enough use to go through 1.5 cylinders of CO2... Thanks for the note about MIO/soda stream refills. I currently just add my own ginger ale flavoring afterwards and eyeball it.
I haven't yet experienced the right side filling issue, but I can't say for sure its not an issue since I have compared left vs right side filling flavor intensity, etc.
I think CO2 canisters for this machine and the like (Sodastream / Drinkmate) are around $55-70 depending on how many you purchase / shipping etc
There is an issue with the machine, remember this is Ninja not some high end appliance company, so what would be the point in buying it for $50 if you know it's going to break
Ninja is also known to swap out parts and make multiple models once a product starts to cook so it reduces their cost and increases their profits (similar to a mid cycle video game console refresh)
Their newest machine, the Slushi, started at $240, then Ninja raised it to $279, then it sold out and when it came back it was at $299.
They have good ideas but i feel like they put out items, hope they sell, without the proper QC and testing - "who cares we will just change a few things and put the newer version back on shelves most people wont complain anyways and just eat the $100 loss"

Thristi will work with soda stream or other CO2 canisters. You need to reset the counter when you switch the canister by pressing the bubble button for 3 seconds. I have been using the machine for almost a year. The carbonation is way better than soda stream. I wish they had cola flavors.
There is a new version of this called the Thirsti Max that is being sold at Target now, but should be releasing everywhere else soon. The only difference is a bigger reservoir and allows you to carbonate 1 liter and is much much faster at carbonating.
They are also introducing 4 new cola flavors with that model. Currently $179 at Target but hasn't had a full roll out yet.
Never thought I'd see the day where kitchen appliances use the inkjet model of business practice!

My son uses Sodastream so if the connection is the same, he uses refillable 10lb CO2 bottle with adapter. He spends like $25 bucks to fill it and it lasts him a LONG time.
