These will likely be gone by BF.

Just buy the dang thing if you want one. You won't find a price any lower.

Can't do DTS. Just a downstep to 2.1 compressed. Basically useless unless all you do is watch Netflix and YouTube which if that's the case why are you buying a high end OLED? LG can decode DTS and has Dolby Vision. Why bother with this when 70% of film, TV and anime at 5.1 and higher won't pass through audio. I bought and returned this thing. Switched to the C4 and will never go back to Sammy until they stop tagging their OLEDs as ewaste from the factory for stuff like this. A smart TV that can't act as a receiver for your stereo system isn't a smart TV. No one owns receivers anymore. If you use Emby/Plex this isn't the TV for you. You'll be infinitely frustrated. If you plan to pipe in AV signals from a console/bluray player and out to speakers over eArc you'll have a bad time as literally nothing comes out the other end unless you lossy downmix it.
People stopped using receivers? Since when? I actually got my first one recently. I have this TV and with a receiver I don't really notice any problems. I use DTS:X HT with Xbox with no trouble. I did have to update my HTPC to not accept DoVi though.

I purchased this exact tv last Fall & it is beautiful. If you're on the fence like I was just do yourself a favor & pull the trigger, you won't regret it.

While I understand your frustration, I have a question:
For those of us that still use a mid to high end receiver that does support all Dolby formats, does this matter?
Alternatively does it still matter if we are using a streaming device that also supports these formats, and just using the TV as a monitor?

It depends on your signal path. If you route all your devices to the receiver (like you've described) it won't matter because the receiver will play the lossless formats. The problem is if you route everything to the TV and rely on the eArc connection to pass through the audio to receiver it won't pass the lossless through bitstream so you don't get the additional meta data from Atmos or other audio codecs.

Yup, it doesn't work if you must route to TV first. But many others go to the "sound component" first, including receivers, soundbars (thats me with Q990C). It also doesn't work if you play "from the TV's apps".

Rtings list of audio passthroughs:

ARC/eARC Port eARC
eARC: Dolby Atmos Over Dolby Digital Plus Yes
eARC: Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 Yes
eARC: LPCM 7.1 Over Dolby MAT Yes
eARC: Dolby TrueHD 7.1 Yes
eARC: DTS:X Over DTS-HD MA No
eARC: DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 No
eARC: LPCM Channels (Bitstream) 7.1
ARC: Dolby Digital 5.1 Yes
ARC: DTS 5.1 No
Optical: Dolby Digital 5.1 Yes
Optical: DTS 5.1 No

This Samsung S90C supports many audio formats, including many Dolby Digital options. Unfortunately, it doesn't support DTS formats, which is disappointing, as many UHD Blu-rays use DTS for their lossless audio tracks.

I posted in the other thread...but I've read that Q-symphony does not work well with higher end soundbars, so you/me/us should not base our TV pairings based on being able to pair soundbar/tv by brand.

Just my 02 cents. However, I'm still looking to replace my B5 wit an S90D, once I see $1200 range.
Don't base your purchase on q symphony. I have a qn90c and 990c and it keeps resetting to sound bar for whatever reason. It won't stay on both tv and sound bar. It's a pain. Can't really tell the difference when it's on anyway

If you buy through Samsung and pick up at best buy can you get a geek squad warranty to cover burn-in?

You are saying a bunch of nonesense. Its an amazing TV for gaming and just fine for streaming. Who has the money for these expensive audio setups and Blu-rays?

So basically, you said all that to say that you are mad your tv isn't also a receiver? I definitely own a receiver and wouldn't want my tv handling audio. As for plex/emby, why aren't you using a shield pro or apple tv4k as a client? If you try to make your tv a server and a receiver, you are bound to be disappointed.

I'm in the same boat for the S90D. Waiting for $1200 range.

While I WANT it... I don't necessarily NEED to replace my 8 year old B5.
I work repairing tv's. That wont last much longer, you're lucky it lasted that long.
