Good deal, brought mine at full price and i think its worth the features. Only cons i have about this is i wish there was a quicker way (maybe widget even) of just toggling the privacy mode on/off.

does it need subscription for essential functionality e.g., saving video clip or motion detection?
No, Eufy Security doesn't need a subscription. These would have internal storage on the camera itself. You can get their Homebase to expand the storage (no cloud, all local) and manage all the content if you have multiple Eufy cameras.
This is a long-standing issue with Eufy. Hundreds of my dollars that likely would have gone to Eufy have gone to Wyze, Arlo, Ring, etc. because Eufy refuse to do what practically every other competitor does. They actually did have a black pan/tilt model, it seems, that I only ever saw sold at Target (or was it Petco?) as a two-pack - long gone last I checked. It's puzzling and frustrating, but all these cam vendors have their idiosyncrasies.

I'm tired of doing DIY arts and crafts painting projects on white cameras. I keep mine hidden or in windows pointed outside or inside my car. Black are invisible. White is like an eyesore. Normally i prefer only white color for other electronics and computer accessories. Not for this kind of cam.
You should sandbox ALL your IOT devices on their own SSID or VLAN if you're concerned about security. It's ridiculous how much data gets leaked and/or stolen from all the random "smart" devices in our homes.
As for the deal, this is the lowest I've seen the S350. Good camera but I only use it to watch over my pets in their room. Everything I need real security for goes through HKSV (which sadly doesn't support 4K streams…)

But the matter standard has ALSO seemingly stalled, so who knows what's going on.
I gave up and went with Nest cams + starling hub. I used to have a Eufy that worked decently well, but the security issues give me pause.
