they block out a lot of noise but the ultra blocks out noticeably more, whether thats worth approx $100 more? not sure, up to your budget (and fit, and control scheme)

what i did was use them over soft/ultra soft foam ear plugs (hearos, macks, amazon basic)

and you'll block out so much noise that you'll need to take them off to hear announcements or the flight attendant asking you what drinks you want

i also got a cheap $20ish bluetooth adapter to plug into the in flight system so i can keep anc

the quietcomforts have:

-slightly longer battery life (2-3 hours more)
-wind noise reduction
-cable with in line mic

soundguys measured SQ and ANC, both are virtually the same. so unless you really need those 3 features, or your qc45's are dying, these would not really be an upgrade

if you want an upgrade, the ultras have better ANC, but (imo) worse controls

imo having owned the xm4, for daily use the xm4 @130 is better. however, if you fly more than a few times a year, the anc on the bose is worth the upgrade. and if you fly longer than 6+ hours regularly, the bose is invaluable

I have these because I got them at F&F pricing when my brother in law worked there, at the time my understanding was they were significantly better than the XM3, maybe a little better than the 4 but not enough to justify the price then, so I would say the 70 dollar lower price is going to be the way to go.

I call Jack n the Box Beetlejuice head. I have a huge head and have XM3's and have no problem with tightness. I think I'm 7 1/2. Unless you're like an 8 1/2 I can't see how they'd be too small, but who knows!

Does anyone know how well these work on noise cancellation on an airplane compared to the older Bose wired headsets? I have the QC 25. I either need to replace the cushions on the existing headphones or get a new set of headphones.

I tried the Beats Studio Buds+ earbuds, and the noise cancellation, compared to my Bose QC 25, was terrible.

That was a huge win for me yesterday. I prefer the xm4s over the 5s. Smaller case/look/feel when wearing them. It all boils down to personal preference though.

I really like these headphones. Comfortable, good sound quality, and good noise cancelling. Only downside is that you can't connect to bluetooth while charging.
