Not a bad deal at all for a brand name switch. If you look at more obscure brand names you can get way better deals as others pointed out. Like this managed all 8 X 10GB port SFP+ switch for $111 currently.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D4YW9...F0aWM&th=1

Or if you want something identical but with better price and additional feature this switch has identical setup for $50 but also has POE 72W total.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D1C5K...F0aWM&th=1

For anyone using a home NAS, it shows that the bottle neck for most NAS is not the hard drive spindle but the network port, without any changes to the NAS but the network port being used you will see huge jumps in Read and Write performance going from 1G/2.5G/5G/10G when it comes to within network performance. So utilizing the 2.5 or 10Gb ports these NAS come with is a nice way to get additional performance if you have the network infrasturcture to match.

Prices have come down but you can get a MANAGED similar Horaco switch on Ali for almost half the price ($40) now. If you want to do any segmentation or rudimentary VLAN that is the way to go.

I have the model of the Tenda that has 2.5G SFP ports in addition to the 2.5Gb Ethernet ports. Since my incoming connection is 1Gb fiber and I have a NAS. There's times when that can saturate the network. Likewise, I can move files from my PC to the NAS quicker now.

A couple years ago I had a lightening strike do $17K worth of damages to stuff in my house. Since then, I network over fiber for the room-to-room stuff.

There are plenty of 'use cases.'

NASCOMPARES showed these 2 deals:

5 port + 1 SFP+ = $45 (but it's a layer 3/managed switch)
https://www.amazon.com/Ethernet-M...B0CT3B541Z

4 port + 2 SFP+ = $35

I personally think this is a better deal at $80 on Amazon prime day sale.
Tenda TEM2010X with 8, 2.5GBE ports, and 2 10GBE SFP+ (plus the ability to use link aggregation, which the QNAP does not seem to support?)

If you're willing to get your hands dirty, (I've yet to try it myself) these actually have an underlying API that allows VLAN management making it a sweet deal for "managed":

As a network engineer, I am curious who will buy it. For a home office, 6-ports is definitely not enough, and you won't use an unmanaged hub for TOR. For home users, they do not need 10G. But, they must produce it for someone.

I replaced all my switches with the Tenda TEM2010F , It has the same 8x2.5GBE ports, and two 2.5GB SFP ports. That was enough for me. It makes transfers to my Synology much faster.

They are $59.99 today, but you can catch them for $40 at times. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B9B42997/

Your Synology supports 2.5GBE? Which one is it?

Any firmware security concerns with budget switches from budget sources? With proper network segmentation I guess you can minimize any risk, but I'm curious if this is something that people think about.

Does this apply for something like a Synology Nas? Feel like a dummy for asking, but I'm curious and clueless. Thanks

No, because switches dont operate like that. So the concern is null and void.
A black box from a fly by night in China with power, internet and access to your home network. What could possibly go wrong?

I think having hardware on your network, especially part of your network infra, that is from a questionable vendor (some of the Ali offerings) is a reasonable concern. Even if you're only worried about future firmware updates for said devices.

I would like to hear why anyone thinks that's not something to worry about.
Top tier mfrs have had supply chain issues with vulnerabilities before, so no one is exempt, but trusting your hardware vendor is pretty important IMO.
