So in my case, instead of today's renewal going til the end of October 2025, it only goes til end of August 2025. (This would have happened even if I were to do this renewal on October 31. I'd have to actually wait til November 1 for this to not happen, and to extend to November of the following year, but, who knows if this $10 renewal deal would even be available in November. So I bit the bullet, decided to not chance it, and renewed now, and essentially lost a 40 day gap of membership, from 9/1/24 to 10/10/24).
Same is true for prescription drugs. I use Costco (warehouse and mail order) for prescription drugs frequently and am not a member.

With regards to BJs vs Costco yes Costco is crowded but sometimes it's easy to get in get out in Bjs. True their prices are higher than Costco but they usually give dollar off coupons to offset that difference. Also Bjs let's you stack their coupons with manufacturer coupons (at least they used to) so you can make some good deals but at Costco you pay whatever they sell stuff at can't really use coupons.

Costco has higher quality stuff and is cheaper when it comes to proper bulk purchases.
BJ's I can do regular grocery shopping without needing to store a ton of stuff and still save versus the grocery store. Also, while Costco is improving these days, BJ's blows them out of the water for convenience. The BJ's app and website have reflected in store inventory and pricing for years. You can also order for pickup or curbside for free with the same prices as if you'd have walked the store yourself including clearance prices (which can often be quite good).
The ability to grocery shop and not need to bring my two small children inside a chaotic Costco, while still getting similar pricing overall, is a win. I do enjoy the occasional Costco trip on my own looking for deals or some grocery items I will occasionally stock from them, though. However when I leave I often feel like I need a sedative from all the mindless inconsiderate people in the store.
Also, Costco baby formula and their semiannual diaper sale are the best offers out there for parents. They make the membership worth it alone.
