Something something Lightroom killer.. didn't I hear that a million times before.

I am somewhat a hobbyist and am looking for a real LR alternative for like forever. Nope, none works the same way LR does if you happen to take about few hundred pictures every time (which isn't all that much, if you use burst mode at all).

That's is because Lightroom is not just a photo editor, it is, first and foremost, a catalog, all tools and effecti within LR is nondestructive, every change is made in a "mask" saved in a database and your origin picture isn't impacted. You don't suddenly have multiple versions of the same pictures to manage. it manages all your photos, import and categorize them.

What most of the so called Lightroom killer, is actually doing Photoshop things, and they maybe pretty good at those, but Photoshop is not a Lightroom replacement, and neither is any of those product.

Exactly. From what I read even photoshop element has a 3 year time bomb that stops working. Crazy if true.
Elements has now a 3 year license. F Adobe.

As a heads up, If you already own a subscription (in my case, the 20gb photography plan) make sure you select the same product, otherwise when you go to redeem it at the adobe site, it'll just start a new plan and you'll have two plans running at the same time. I accidentally purchased the 1TB version, and now i'm trying to get some sort of refund by Adobe.

That's one of the reasons I wait until the current plan expires before redeeming the new one. More importantly though the reason I hold off on redeeming is it's not unheard of for me to go a month without using LR. If the downtime happens while the current one expires, great, I'll resubscribe when I need to using the banked code I have. No point in starting a new year sub if I'm not going to use the product for a month or more. I don't use much in the way of the online storage so I'm happy with whichever one I can find a deal on.

Yes, assuming you stack it with the 1TB plan. It won't stack with the 20GB plan.

no, it will start a new subscription.

Instead, you can purchase this deal and save the code for when your current subscription runs out.

Can you pls elaborate on the "consistently 50% off" part?
Do a search on here. $125 for a year code is fairly common, it happens a few times a year.

On Black Friday it is normally $99.

Not at all true. If the code is for the same product (and that is the important part!), it will extend by a year. I am good until 2031.

I feel that. I've been trying to use Darktable instead. And it's impressive what they've done... but also confusing in a lot of ways that I still haven't gotten used to, and I'm not sure if I ever will because I don't actively edit photos on a weekly basis to retain the memory of how to use the system properly.

One thing about lightroom that is great is that it feels intuitively set up enough that when I finally come back to editing photos, I don't have to recall the nuances of how the UI works. Everything's kind of just laid out there for you and the most common controls are both clearly labeled and easy to use.

I'm continuing to give darktable a shot just because with the infrequency of use it's hard for me to justify an ongoing subscription, but every time I see a sale like this I strongly consider going back.

If I am on the 1TB monthly plan, can I add this? Does monthly resume after the one year?

That has been the case in the past, no reason to think it has changed.

Can confirm - just did it. Was on monthly, added the one year and monthly resumes one year later. Thanks!
