It's still working as of 16 hrs ago. You can request a new number from Visible and try that.

Nobody has tried it to my knowledge. Metro's unlock policy states that it will unlock 365 days from device activation. They also state that device activation and account activation are two different things. I am debating whether to test out what happens if the line is activated but the phone isn't.

Well, that will allow you to be verified, however placing an order through their customer service reps in another level of insanity. Having wasted at least 7 hours trying to do that, I would advise against it. At the least, just go to the store and get verified, if store is close by, set a limit of how much time you want to invest and if it is worth it. Another issue is how the store plays along. Some times they can go out of the way to not help, because they might mean more business to them, and I don't blame them.

For the 1 hour I was at the store trying to fix my issue, I saw an endless supply of people coming (mostly immigrants, and I think blue collar they call it), just walk in, hand out cash money and get refills or renewal or whatever, not wasting any time talking or asking, just get it done and move on. Considering that model, who would want to spent time on a slick dealer/hassler trying to get a deal, invest time in helping vs en-cashing on people walking in, minimal talking and walking out. Sigh.

On reddit, I read someone trying to explain the technicality of how they unlock over the air and that relies on the phone activation in the apple system. I am almost ready to rip that cover and turn it on... Since I really want to be able to use this phone 1 year from now. Had we had this conversation 1 year back, I would have been happy you were going to try it and let me know, cant risk it now Wink

We typically avoid buying from Metro stores because many will refuse to sell the phone without adding on extras (accessories, insurance). But it might be worth a visit to see if they can resolve your issue.

Question for the experts,
I tried to transfer for in a line from visible but got the dreaded you need to complete the order in store message. Now the number is stuck in limbo and says it cannot be ported.

I called metro and they said they could do the transfer and get the iphone 12 for over the phone for only 75 bucks with no other fees. Is this true?

Or should I ask them to cancel the port in and try again on the website?

That happened to me. Just cancel the port, and use visible's chatbot to replace your visible number. Then wait a day or two and try to port again

The failed port usually cancels automatically after a few hours. If you're in a rush you can also call CS and ask them to cancel the port immediately. Alternatively you can also change your number using the Visible app.
If they can do it over the phone for $75 then that's the same as the online price.

I guess I can port out again once the number changes?

How did you cancel the port. I can't get past the automated message when I call Metro.
