It's not the adapter. It's your car. It powers the usb port even when the car is off.

I went through 3 to 4 of these within a few years, kept dying. A lot of people have issues with it dying within a few months to a year

Remember your car needs to have android auto for this to work. All this does is allow you to do it wirelessly. If your car is not prepped for Android Auto, you need a more expensive retrofit.

Wonder if this would work better than a carlinkit? Got a carlinkit and it is dodgy at times with connections.

You can make your own wireless AA with Raspberry Pi Zero W (and few other models) if you got one of those lying around. Or want to do a little tinkering.

I've had the AAWireless unit in my Mazda since January and love it.

Got this last time at Target for $30. Convenient, but just a heads up that it uses a good amount of phone battery, so if you're going for a long drive you'd might as well plug your phone in. It's nice for shorter trips like running errands though.

Yep mine looks like it's starting to die. Was good for a couple years but now it stops working after just a few minutes after most drives. I'm not a big driver so I'm sure this would've happened sooner.

Does Hyundai push updates to the vehicle wirelessly (Over The Air), or does it need a USB stick to load updates? The reasons I ask is my Genesis EV got upgraded from wired AA/CarPlay to wireless in an update last month and I got sick of waiting for the update to be downloaded wirelessly so I loaded the new firmware on a USB drive and now I have an adapter that is no longer necessary. I just put my phone on the charging mat, turn the car on and it just works, which is better even than the adapter I had before.

I've heard very mixed reviews on this so i went with AAWireless instead. It costs more, but has pretty good build quality and so far has only hiccuped once in about 2k miles of driving. Also AAW is a European company that (i think) manufactures in Europe if you'd prefer not to support the CCP as much (Motorola has been Chinese company for close to a decade now, and i have a feeling this adapter is actually made by another Chinese company that licensed Motorola's branding).
