I went with the Moto G Play 2024 and used Google's Family Link to limit the phone functionality.
Using Family Link, I disabled EVERYTHING except the phone, messages, Google maps app. I also disabled Google Search as otherwise, Google search would allow YouTube videos and websites to load through search (weird but true).
Nice thing is his (the phone's) location will show up in my Google apps so indirectly, I can see where his phone was last online. Had a slight spike in data use due to him using Google Maps while riding the bus to watch the dot move in real time but I downloaded local maps, disabled traffic view and told him to not switch satellite view on as that uses more data.
So far so good.
We stressed to him that this is strictly to help him reach us or be reached. if he mis-uses it, he loses it. He's not supposed to share it with friends as he knows it's a prepaid with limited minutes and texts intended to last the ENTIRE school year. If he blows through it, he'll have to pay to have it reloaded.
Eventually, he will need something more than the TracFone plan especially when he gets old enough to share the number with approved friends.The phone auto unlocked after 60 days, am thinking to use the phone with tello down the road, they have some cheap plans (unlimited text and call, 1GB for $9/month).

I re-ordered the 2 pack flip phones with an old email address that they had for me based upon an old address. Had to redo the password. Yes, a bit pricier than the Orbic deal last year, which I think was from HSN. Decided not to spend $10.00 more for the regular phones in a 2 pack, as I had no use for them and no desire to go through the hassle of selling them on Ebay for a few bucks each. Used a one-time HELLO20 that they gave me with the original (now cancelled) order, for $20.00 off this order. After the order went through the next day (the phones have not shipped yet, fingers crossed) QVC also offered me a 2 time use $15.00 off $60.00 minimum purchase coupon, but only valid for 2 days. LOL. Not sure what to do with these 2 coupons today.

Color me ignorant because I've not had a non-smartphone in ages... but what is the included data for, and unless it does WiFi calling, what is the WiFi for?
And to the point.... can I get this, unlock it, sign it up for someone else's cheap data plan, and use it as a hotspot?
The 2760 may also support WiFi calling and hotspot. It seems to vary. From what I found many of these features don't work on the Verizon SIM that comes with this deal but once the phone is unlocked and on another carrier they are supposed to be options you can enable. I have not personally used these phones for this though so I'm going off what has been said on other websites and forums.
