I think the old American Apparel shirts were 100% cotton and now they're some 60/40 cotton/poly blend. Poly pills and doesn't hold a print as well as cotton does.

The last few shirts I bought that were full color prints cracked after a half dozen washes. The shirt material was perfectly fine (100% ring spun cotton by Port&Company, made in Honduras), but the screen printing wasn't properly heat set—it was and still feels sort of "gummy" like not-quite-dry latex paint, despite also peeling away from the shirt fibers in thousands of pinholes.
The shirt had 4 colors on dark shirt which might also make a difference depending on how they're printed: white, red-orange, yellow-orange, and black on a dark brown shirt.
I wish they used better printing because I really like a lot of the designs.

Also - wash them inside out, cold water, and air dry if possible (or partially air dry).

YMMV, I have about a dozen Woot shirts from the past 3-4 years and almost all of them are fine. Just as good as the graphic tees from Target or Kohl's (we have a lot of those, too). At least with Woot, you'll have something unique...unlike the big box stores where everyone has the same two Star Wars and AC/DC shirts, even if they couldn't name their favorite movie or song, respectively.
That said, $8 is about the upper limit of what I'll pay here. The fitted option is nice, too. Just right on a medium or athletic build.
