I might get downvoted into oblivion for this, but I'll chime in with my opinion.

I have had poor customer service experiences with U.S. Mobile. For example, they lost my number for about 4 weeks during a simple port. The only thing that they did to make up for it was offer me $5 off for a few months. And, they kept bragging about how great their customer service was when they communicated with me. This issue was a pretty big inconvenience for me, and I was surprised at how poorly they handled it (given their supposed reputation for good CS).
I also find that they sneakily raise prices or take away features.
Additionally, their subreddit brigades anyone who raises valid complaints.
I don't trust them as a company and find that their CS cannot handle certain issues with any sense of urgency.
standalone plan not available yet
I am using Redpocket 200min/200M $30/360day plan on a Galaxy 6 LTE watch. It works standalone but I used a Samsung phone to set it up. Here's a previous discussion: https://slickdeals.net/f/17449506-360-day-red-pocket-prepaid-plan-200-min-talk-1000-texts-200mb-lte-month-30-free-shipping?attrsrc=Thread%3AExpired%3AFalse&src=SiteSearchV2Algo1

Had a lot of issues when I transferred one of our five numbers to us mobile - took about a week to get it sorted out. That was December 2011 though and haven't had any problems since. We're paying $23/line after taxes with I think either 15gb data per line.

I have joined this before and since it does not have the feature of the hotspot so I switched to the one with the hotspot feature. However, I was told I cannot use the unused credit of the canceled plan for new plan. I have to switch back to the same plan of once canceled in order to use the credit ...

Can I still get the companion plan if I have my number on a another cell phone provider?

No, you can't use companion plan with let say T-Mobile number phone line. I chatted with CS. They will have stand alone plan ready next week.

I can't say I agree with the sneakily raising prices or taking away features. I'm on a legacy plan that provides unlimited text/data and two free subscriptions among Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Spotify, Apple Music, and some other services I didn't consider. Maybe they messed up the contract when I joined, but I've been locked into all of that for $25/month for the past three years.

With US Mobile being an MVNO, this gives me hope for Mint Mobile to finally add an Apple Watch plan. Thank you for sharing, I'll hold out for a Mint Mobile if it ever happens.
For any of you with a Watch plan, do you find it actually useful? I would feel the most use when out jogging to have music stream in since I use YouTube Music instead of Apple Music.

...so I'm with Verizon for AWU2 on watch only plan for $10 no fees or taxes

Lemme tell you AW without a phone is a pain. You have limited use and you have to set it as kid on familly account.
Apple made it so hard and took so many features away that is not worth it to have a stand alone AW.
There is a difference between setting up an Apple Watch as standalone and getting standalone cell service for a watch. You can absolutely set up a cellular-capable Apple Watch tied to an iPhone and not use the same carrier on the watch. Just set it up without cell service, then add the US Mobile (or other provider where you can get a watch line) cell service to the watch afterwards. The watch will be tied to your phone and still have access to data connectivity when your phone is not in range. You just have to deal with the separate number, although you can easily make and take calls on other devices (even iPads) when they are linked to the same Apple ID and configuring it correctly.
For example, let's say you have a company line on your iPhone and your wife is postpaid on ATT. You can get a line through your wife's ATT account for your watch which is tied to your company iPhone. The US Mobile offer is nice since there are not many providers that offer stand alone watch lines that don't require you to have a voice line with them as well.

I have 2 kids with apple watches. It used to be the only way to activate watch was on an iphone on the carrier. You activated the watch via the Iphone. I had to put my sim in my wife's iphone temporarily to activate their watches.
You can set up cellular Apple Watches as family watches with your iPhone (as long as your kid's apple IDs are part of your family group). They will have restricted functionality but most basic features work. You can do this without actually setting up a cell plan on the watches, but you can also add cellular lines on the watches, either as additional lines on your existing carrier account or any other carrier that offers standalone watch lines.

I don't find it useful for my watch as I pretty much always have my phone nearby. It's nice if you go for jogs without your phone or if you tend to forget it at home. My son doesn't want a phone but has a watch with cell service so it's useful for that scenario as well (or for kids who you don't want have a phone to limit distractions or if they are not responsible enough - it's harder to lose a watch than a phone). Could also be useful for elderly parents who may forget to take their phone along when they wander around town.

I have T-Mobile service for my iphone. And I want to get this standalone plan for my Apple watch. Now how is this going to be different than getting a watch plan with T-Mobile because T-Mobile would also provide a separate number for the watch line ?

Truphone offers a stand-alone watch plan and used T mobile for that. It's $99 for annual plan with them.
While true, it's a family setup thus:
The following features and apps are not available: Medications, respiratory rate, irregular heart rhythm notifications, ECG, AFib History, Cycle Tracking, Sleep, Wrist Temperature, Blood Oxygen, Walking Steadiness, Audiobooks, Remote, News, Shortcuts, and the double tap gesture.

I've been wrong many time, but I'll be surprised if "stand alone" means what some think, I think you'll have to have a plan with USM to add any watch plan.
