$100 off $500 with AMEX offers. YMMV. Makes this very slick.

Definitely different monitors targeted at different uses. The LGgn850 is targeted at mixed uses with good gaming performance. The Alienware is a gaming target. If you're buying for gaming, go with the Alienware. If you're just looking for good value for mixed use and aren't willing to pay a few hundred more for it, you're probably not going to maximize the Alienware anyway, but the Alienware is better if you want a better gaming set up. Ignoring price I personally would always pick the Alienware and have done so in nearly the same scenario.

RTINGS says:

"If you want the best gaming performance, the Dell Alienware AW3423DW is a better choice than the LG 34GN850-B. The Dell looks better in dark rooms, delivers a better HDR experience, and has better motion handling. The LG does have better text clarity, so if that's important to you, consider this monitor instead."

I had the LG34gn850-B and it died on me twice (was able to warranty it first time, no luck second time). It gave me nothing but issues. Dead pixels, dead panel, randomly stopped working. I thought I was going crazy I've never had monitor issues having built computers for 25+ years. It was early on production so maybe that's ironed out, but it was not fun. I ended up upgrading to an Alienware a few years ago (AW3821DW) and I've been very happy. This monitor listed is the successor to the one I use right now (and love). I would 100 times out of 100 go this Alienware over LGgn850-B based on that experience (it's not fun to ship back a monitor for repairs/warranty). I can't speak to the OLED text clarity though, since my panel is IPS.

Alienware is slightly bigger and heavier, but the build quality is way better and the atrocious ergonomics on the LG are also a (hindsight) red flag for me.

If you've never checked out RTINGS you should - it's a great website for tech reviews.

Well, that's a fancy IPS screen.

This is an OLED.

That's the difference, all the OLED vs IPS trade offs apply.

He's asking if there will be an 38" OLED variant coming out, which does not currently exist, lol.

Any info or insights on whether a 38" version of the same monitor is in the works? Feel like will be stuck with 34 for a very long time. mostly need realestate for work and ps5 gaming.
Here's the OLED timeline for upcoming generations in the attached image.

I personally went with a 32" OLED 4K for my PS5 as it doesn't really like 1440p. 34" and 39" 2160p OLED's are still a year out.

I've not heard anything. Maybe there'll be some info around CES if it's something they're working on. LG has a 39" WOLED 21:9 240hz monitor, but it's at almost 3x the price of this monitor, and has a much more aggressive curve as well as still only being 1440p.

Because they cut smaller OLEDs from larger mother sheets, it really requires that Samsung start producing sheets of a size that could support a ~38" ultrawide. If they can't do it without too much waste, they won't, because the price point will be way too high and the waste too much.

FYI, searching for "dell" in my card offers didn't work, but I actually had it. Had to CTRL+F instead. Nice deal!

I just got the new 27" 360hz qd oled from alienware. 32 is just too big for me personally as an old school up close at desk pc gamer. I know because i have multiple monitors and one is a 4k 32" and it's just too big and close to my face to game on.

But enough about that, what i wanted to say is that if you haven't gamed on an oled, it is a huge difference. It is seriously just something you have to see for yourself it's that good. But also imo they do not make good desktop monitors at all. They are darker and text is plenty readable but just not as good as other panels. I use my 32" for my desktop and game on the qd oled and will never go back. It makes games more fun just because of how amazing everything looks it seriously looks that much better.

I hear the OLED text is not as sharp compared to the IPS screen but correct me if I am wrong.

[Note the DW v DWF is mostly FreeSync versus GSync so they are comparable monitors (with some slight differences, but it's a close enough comparison given they have them compared).]

Text is the same so long as the pixel layout is the same
But this uses a different pixel layout and Windows doesn't scale to it correctly ergo some text might look weird

Correct. You'll be stuck at 100hz on HDMI. The OP description says this but it's worth repeating in the comments for potential buyers to be aware!

I demoed every OLED model I could and this was one of my personal favorites. This is slickdeals and we're all chasing deals, but I might just splurge on this model as well. I will likely have buyer's remorse and would upgrade from the 34" after the higher resolution panels become available in 2025.

Looks like a solid deal with AMEX offer and CB. I am a console gamer so no go for me but would be on this if I had a PC !

I bought this the day it was released.......$1500. Then bought another and have it vertical next to it. Tech makes me sad sometimes lol. Absolutely worth it for this price. Once you go UW you never go back and add OLED on top of it, omfg amazing.

I've owned this model for 20 months and still absolutely love it. There has been no sign of burn-in. I don't run the burn in preventive or pixel refresh action every 4 hours as it would like me to.

What I do is when it pops-up if I want to take a break I kick off the pixel refresh. I also kick it off if I'm going to be away from my PC for an extended amount of time.

What the pixel refresh does is blank your screen as if its turned off and begins the pixel refresh which takes 6 to 8 minutes and then it turns off your monitor.
