This set has actually useful tools for general DIY around the house. I've built my own set of equivalent tools over 3 years; but given a chance to do it all over again; simpler to have gone with this set.
Can't time travel; if you are a new home owner, this is a great set to get starting into the DeWalt system.
Not bad. Lets say the value of a bare tool is $70, so six of them make $420. $80 for the charger and batteries, then the overall total is $500. Meaning the tool carrier is kind of free.

This is a great kit, and as long as you arent treating every tool like a hammer, will last a very long time. (Ive used this kit for habitat for humanity, gifts for my dads home renovation project, to replace my grandfathers aging kit, and my own personal kit).
Newer homeowner looking to start his tool collection. Is there likely to be much better for Black Friday or do I jump on this now?
Personally I'd wait, only 2 tools are XR. I have the atomic 809 impact driver and it is a great tool but I'm not sure I'd want to pay this price for this kit when black friday is coming up.
A DIYer won't need XR tho fyi
Also, this $300 Ridgid set is very good for the price imo. And Ridgid has LSA, just make sure you register within 90 days. It isn't brushless tho
Great set for more than just "Home" or "DIY" stuff. I have the drill, impact, saw, and sander and they are what I use 80% of the time for building props and sets for a number of my clients. I also just used the saw and sander last night to finish up a couple of A frame signs that my client needed.
The tough system box is also great for keeping those dusty tools (sander, saw, etc) as to avoid getting the rest of the tool box dirty.
The only thing i'd say could round out a tool box for most people is an extra 2.0ah battery to be able to run drill, impact, and saw without any swaps.

Get it actually a good starter set! As long as you aren't super picky like me… ocd about deals and best is a curse.
The main caveat is it you intend to do a lot of outdoor work like building a retaining wall, cutting trees and things like 4x6. If you are, then flexvolt is nicer for the circular saw, grinder and recip saw.
The other 2 diy things I'd pickup and likely use just as often are
1) good 6v electric screwdriver
2) cordless dremel

Just depends on what you need. Myself, I would pick the Milwaukee as I already have a bunch of M18 batteries.
If your starting out with your first big boy Tool set, then the Milwaukee Hackzall might really come in handy around the house, I use mine a lot for even pruning tree branches. The Dewalt doesn't include a Sawzall, I think you get a sander instead, but personally, I use corded sanders about 80% of the time.
