7.50-7.99 for a 12 pack puts this in the 4-5 dollar territory for a 12 pack.

I get this is the new normal but man this blows.

Because of the "new normal" with these ridiculous prices - I now get the Walmart brand soda - $1 for a 2 liter. Coke and Pepsi lost me as a customer for life!

Yeah, me too! They were over a dollar for a while but then dropped back to just a dollar and glad they still are.

Seeing $3 to $4 for one 2 liter of Coke is crazy. And Dollar General now has 3 for $6 of Coke or whatever and not having them come out a dollar a piece if you buy 3 or 4 or 5.
One thing worth noting - generic sodas are super hit and miss. Obviously this is 100% subjective, but I've never had a generic cola that hits like a Coke and I've never had a Mountain Dew or Dr Pepper knockoff that was even halfway decent. Meanwhile things like fruity flavored sodas, root beers, and ginger ales tend to be pretty decent IMO.

The second largest supermarket chain had a memo that got leaked, in which the corporate decided to pass not just the 100% inflation cost to the consumers, but tagged a lot more to make a killing for themselves. You want to know why things got expensive, that's why. They know they can get away with it using inflation and covid as an excuse to jack up prices. About the only thing that got back to the normal price was eggs. About two years ago there was a terrible bird flu and there was a shortage of eggs worldwide. I've seen a dozen eggs costing as much as $20. But somehow those prices didn't stick, thankfully.

Not right before covid...like maybe 2006. By 2006 or so, finding 4 for $10 regularly was becoming rare
I know at 2005, it was still regularly on sale at 5 for $10, regularly being like almost almost every other month because I was drinking it like water at that time. It was cheaper than buying water because the tap water tasted like chalk where I lived

I miss the old Tom Thumb specials of buy 2 get 3 12packs free. That was only when they were about $4.99 for a 12 pack up to about year 2020. When the AI bots take over the low-wage jobs maybe we can return to the good old days. Or,, maybe they will take over.

Vons/Albertsons this week in So Cal has Coke or Pepsi buy 2 get 3 free. Regular price is 9.99 for 12 pack, so it's $20 for 5 total + tax ($4.00 each). At the moment, it's the lowest price I can see out there for Coke. Stater Bros. often has Pepsi (not Coke) for $3.49/12 pack, most recently about a month ago. I stocked up then even though I prefer Coke to Pepsi, the lower price is enough to make up for the difference in taste Smilie

I am trying to give up all liquids with any form of sweetener (soda, juice, etc).

Guess if I am having a huge craving, then I'd go to the convenience store and just grab a fountain for $.89 cents and stand there constantly drinking and refilling until my soda urge goes away.

Decent price for nowadays, I just checked, it's b2g2 up here in WA, Safeway/Albertsons.

I used to buy coke all the time when it was 5 for 10 bucks, damn near 20 years ago... sigh... at least I'm saving money.

Do like us and buy a used soda fountain machine at restaurant auction. Then buy your boxes of syrup at Sams or if you have a Coca cola supplier in your town you can buy directly. Much much cheaper, costs about 10-12 cents a large glass at home. Does cost a bit to get set up though.

Never had that where I lived, not ever. Lowest was 3 per 12 pack, maybe 2.75, a decade ago.
decade ago, i would catch 12-packs for $2.00 at walgreesn as many as i could carry. the norm was a sale for $2.50 each and the every-day price was $3.00 each. deep south geo.

This is why I switched to soda stream. I'm saving a little bit compared to the "new normal", but at least I don't have to haul it in the house anymore.
Absolutely. I also like to drink sparkling water as well so the Sodastream has essentially replaced my coke and la croix (insert any brand) purchases. Plus it's fun to come up with any concoction you like without being limited by premade flavors.
