I guess returns are not accepted for these purchases unless there is some defect/ damage. Something to keep in mind. I learnt it the hard way
Points go 50% further, it's not 50% off. Here's an example of a $100 item:

10,000 points = $100
what amount of points (define as X) * 150% = 10,000?
1.5X = 10,000 --> X = 10,000/1.5 = 6,667
with 50% bonus, $100 = 6,667 points, a savings of 3,333 points (10,000 - 6,667)
3,333/10,000 = 33%, or a 33% savings

said another way:
normally $1 = 100 points, but with the 50% further $1 = 100/1.5 = 66 points
Old Price = 100 Points
New Price = 66 Points
Change = (New price - Old price) / Old Price = (66 - 100) / 100 = -33/100 = -33%
It's only when you have the Chase Reserve card when you received the 50% discount. Otherwise, if you have the "Preferred", you'll only received 20% discount instead of 25% as stated above!

Yeah, I could have left that last bit out. My real point was that they did a bad job communicating about my order and it took six or seven weeks to ship.

That's because you don't have the Reserve. You're looking at the Preferred card.

Yep that's what's holding me back. They seem pretty bad from reviews....

Yes, but they're one of the absolute best cards for points and stuff you can get. If you travel a decent amount they're absolutely worth it.

Can you return the iPhone unopened to Apple store for store credit? I don't want to upgrade my iPhone till next year.

Yeah, just from sign up bonus it's worth many times over the AF if used well. Hyatt hotels can often be rented for 7-12,000 points. You could get the AF covered just by three Hyatt stays in a year from your signup bonus. Then you use the $300 travel benefit which is super easy to trigger, almost any travel use triggers with chase, like hotels, airlines and fees, car rental or I believe even parking costs.

I've had the CSR a number of times now and as long as you aren't someone that never travels at all, it's easy to get $1000+ in benefit per year.

Great deal for those that have a lot of points and were going to buy a new Apple product at full price anyway. You get to keep the extra benefits like Purchase Protection and Extended Warranty when paying with points.

The self-proclaimed point experts are going to tell you that this is a terrible deal because you can get a better "value" booking travel with points. What they don't realize is not everyone is looking for a 4 cent pp redemption on a round trip business class flight to Zimbabwe.
I don't fly to Zimbabwe, I usually fly to Tokyo on first class @ 10 cent pp. Biz around 5 cent pp.

And you can also get pretty good value for short haul US flight.

Example.
I am flying DTW to SEA main cabin on Delta this coming weekend .
Each ticket cost 18500 point + $5 USD. Chase UR convert to Virgin Atlantic has a 40% bonus since Oct 15 so you only need 13220 UR point for 18500 Virgin Atlantic point. The day I book the ticket (Oct 17) the price was around $300 USD for that flight so you are essentially getting

$300-$5 = $295
$295/ 13220 UR = 0.022
2.2 cents per UR point

I agree with this generally which is why I usually use mine on travel portal redemption or Hyatt stays. I don't care about business class. Even if I get a good redemption, I'm not willing to pay more than 25% or so more for international business.

That said, for many items this doesn't really work because there are no sales. For example the AirPods Pro are not worth $250. They're worth $190 which is the frequent sale price.

Why maths is so hard 😱

Getting 50 percent more of stuff say food is same as 33 percent off.
As you pay say $10 but would have paid normally $15
🤯🙏
