I guess returns are not accepted for these purchases unless there is some defect/ damage. Something to keep in mind. I learnt it the hard way
Points go 50% further, it's not 50% off. Here's an example of a $100 item:

10,000 points = $100
what amount of points (define as X) * 150% = 10,000?
1.5X = 10,000 --> X = 10,000/1.5 = 6,667
with 50% bonus, $100 = 6,667 points, a savings of 3,333 points (10,000 - 6,667)
3,333/10,000 = 33%, or a 33% savings

said another way:
normally $1 = 100 points, but with the 50% further $1 = 100/1.5 = 66 points
Old Price = 100 Points
New Price = 66 Points
Change = (New price - Old price) / Old Price = (66 - 100) / 100 = -33/100 = -33%
It's only when you have the Chase Reserve card when you received the 50% discount. Otherwise, if you have the "Preferred", you'll only received 20% discount instead of 25% as stated above!

Tempting, I am looking at the new titanium milanese band for the watch ultra. But hmm..spend 15,000 points? only becaue it takes longer to get back that 15,000 points if this card gives you $1 to 1 point if you buy stuff and the freedom gives you 1.5$ per $1 spent. Still have to spend more to get that 15k back though.
There are so many 3rd party apple watch bands that are great, I am not inclined to buy an apple branded one even with the promotion.

Chase is probably salivating at this thread, watching people waste their points.
This statement is not entirely accurate for those who either don't travel frequently or don't have loyalty accounts with hotels, airlines etc. (so the real answer is - It Depends). For those banking and keeping a large number of points in their account (and don't travel frequently) would amount to missing out on the interest on those points by using points instead of real $$ and banking or investing those $$.

I have a Sapphire Preferred and had only 25% points advantage but it made more sense for me to use those to get an iPhone 16 Pro because I was planning to get one and because I don't travel frequently I would rather save my money than points. Additionally I use Freedom (1.5 points per $) to collect points and then transfer those to Sapphire to spend so I am able to extend my advantage further.

Just wanted to offer a different point of view.

BTW - I received my phone in under 24 hours from ordering Smilie

This is the wrong card for you if you do not travel. There are cards that will give you similar if not better returns for other categories and don't have any annual fee (or substantially lower fees). There is no point in spending $550 a year if you don't travel and waste redemptions on bargain basement rewards. You don't even use the lounge access or travel insurance benefits.

They have Sapphire Preferred, not the Reserve card. So it's a $95 annual fee, not $550. Even if you don't travel too much, the Preferred card can be worth it with 3% back on dining, $50 each year if you book 1 hotel stay through Chase Travel, 1.25 redemption offers like this, etc.

As someone above this post pointed out, the fee is only $95 with multiple benefits. You can play it better when paired with Freedom Unlimited and Sapphire together so you can earn more points per $ and transfer those 1:1 to Sapphire for higher redemption value.

$550 annual fee†; $75 for each authorized user†*
I have a Chase Freedom Flex and a Sapphire card, and could find no Apple page for either card on the Chase APP? The Sapphire card has a $95 annual fee.

Were you able to solve it? I had card member service submit escalation ticket but they sent it to Ultimate Rewards department. I feel like there will be no resolution.

I'm well aware of how the cards work, thanks. The problem is you're still paying for a travel card when you don't travel, and there are other cards that get you similar or better rewards without having to pay.

The Sapphire Preferred "only" costs $95, but the Freedom Unlimited is free and also gives you 3X back on dining, why on Earth would you get the Preferred if you don't travel? Meanwhile, other card families also do well here.

Citi has a free card that will give you 5X back on ANY category (whatever you spend most on) up to $500. They have another card that will give you 2X back on every single dollar you spend. Neither have any annual fee. Amex also has free cards with dining multipliers, grocery multipliers, and some even offer things like credits for certain spending (e.g., I get a $7 rebate on my Disney+ package each month). Hell even the Costco card makes sense if this is your spending pattern. 3X on dining, 4X on gas, 2X at Costco and no annual fee. Some combination of these cards is highly likely to do better for you than a travel card that you do not use the main benefits for.

Again, why on Earth would you get the Preferred if you don't travel? The benefits of this card are for traveling. When you transfer to travel partners and are able to get 3-10 cents per point in value is when the card makes sense. You'd have to spend an absurd amount to make the marginal 25% boost on specific offers that you aren't even promised make sense.

I own the Sapphire Reserve card, as well as the Freedom and Freedom Unlimited. I know well how they work together and I travel more than a little. They make sense for me because I travel. They do not make sense when you don't.
