Just an FYI, the AMDs have an issue with going above 6000mhz ram, you have to tell the motherboard to decouple from the cpu and pay a small 3-5% penalty in fps and latency.

Your cpu might initially work with just selecting the expo 6400 but if it starts freezing or blue screening. Just go into bios and decouple it from the cpu.

The cas32 t group ram is better than the cas36 corsair ram for gaming. If you can select different ram get 6000mhz cas30 (sweet spot price/perf) or 8000mhz but it's not cheap. The motherboard will then use the 6k and 8k as divisible by the 2000mhz that the infinity fabric that amd uses is set to. And that won't require decoupling . So you actually gain 2cas latency by going to cas30 and there's no 3-5% penalty in latency from decoupling from the cpu.

The reason it's so important to read this note is because at 6 cores. you are going to be cpu bound when you get a newer gpu from nvidia 5000 series. so when you are cpu bound the difference in cas latency can easily be another 5% fps on top of the 5% penalty.

That's 10% extra fps if you read this comment and select 6000mhz cas30 ram for very little cost difference for that extra fps.

Also for those who want to get their hands dirty you can manually set that cas32 ram to cas30 and 6400mhz to 6000mhz in the bios but you have to test or research for all of the rest of the sub timings and voltage, and that is atleast 30mins to an hour of work.

Most popular multiplayer games will be able to hit 200fps avg 4k lowest settings ( if you have the gpu for it and dlss3/fsr3) using that cpu. so i think that's an awesome budget target
It's cheaper to add each item individually. This will activate a better combo deal (7600X + B650M) and the combo discount on the RAM. The result is $340 with Corsair RAM or $330 with Team RAM.

Thermalright Peerless Assassin has been the go to cooler. It's well reviewed as being one of the best air coolers and is very affordable

I think Phantom Spirit is the updated and improved version of the Peerless Assassin
I'm running a Phantom spirit on my 7600x and it's been fantastic. The PS gets you an extra heat pipe over the PA for the same size and space it takes up.

This is the way. I have the dual tower model and it is awesome at temps. The new budget king beating out the CM 212.

This seems good. Anybody know how much better the 7800x3d would be with a 4070 Super VS this cpu for primarily Wow (but other more intense single player games too)? Was looking at the microcenter combo with that CPU and it's obviously more expensive..... But this is at least AM5 with so could drop one of those in eventually.
It varies game to game, but on average the 7800x3d will deliver about 20% more frames per second than the 7600x at 1080p. At higher resolutions that gap will narrow. At 4k, the average FPS of the two will be the same, but the minimum FPS will be about 20% higher.

I'm going to build a PC for my older brother using my old 1080 ti and PSU, and I'm thinking this is about as good an option as I've seen recently for $330 w/free SSD. The only issue is I think this may be overkill for his needs, as he's not a big PC user and will only be using it for games. Should I wait for a Ryzen 5 5600 system to come along for cheaper? Another option is I wait for the 9800X3D, buy that and a new mobo/ram, and give him my i5 13600 setup.
This is a great gaming CPU. You can definitely build a 5600X system cheaper, but this would have significantly more longevity because the motherboard included would support any processor from the 7000 and 9000 series (it's also possible it will support CPUs from the successor to the 9000 series, but we don't know for sure yet).

If I were you, he'd be getting my hand-me-down system.

Also, games are trending towards relying on RAM speed, so DDR5 vs DDR4 also benefits longevity of this combo vs an AM4 build.

We need a new mobo and cpu for my kids pc. He games with a 3060. Would this be a good combo where in a few years we just have to upgrade the gpu?
Yeah, this is a great gaming CPU and will easily keep up with a future GPU upgrade.

Can some please recommend the correct barebone kit that can go with this? What other parts should I buy to make it a full build for a home computer. First time building a computer in ages, want to build this with my son as a way to spend this Nov-Dec season. Thank you!

You will need a case a video card a cooler for starters assuming you have keyboard mouse and monitor covered

All those depends on your budget and needs

Anyone have a recommendation for a budget air cooler for those who aren't planning to overclock. The Ryzen 5 7600 has a higher TDP of 105 watts instead of typical 65 watt for most "mainstream" CPU
I got the phantom spirit since it's the same as phantom assassin but with an extra heat pipe. Hands down best value cooler you can find for $30-35. I was able to undervolt all cores -25 PBO and set max cpu power to 90W. This was my sweet spot for efficiency, performance, and temps.

The expired Microcenter bundle has a 7700x and a slightly better motherboard

The Newegg bundle has faster ram with RGB and comes with a 1tb NVMe and is a little bit cheaper.

So it would just depend on what you think is more important, IMO they are actually roughly equal.

I guess not bad for the ppl without a Microcenter.
Seems better than the current Microcenter deal. This has 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD for $30 more than Microcenter's deal with 16 GB of RAM and no SSD.
