I have this TV. it's ok, but being the cheapest TV with MINILED, I feel that the picture quality is slightly compromised at times. there's noticable color banding. I think spending the same money on a non-miniled tv will get you all around better picture quality, although with less inky black levels.
Thanks..so then the question has to be is the QM7 for $499 that much better over all for a 55" to warrant the extra $150? If you know, your opinion is appreciated.. Thx.

You'd have to check out the rtings compare tool and see what matters most to you. For the money I'd probably stick with the U6 or go for the U7N as a step up option as both seem pretty good from a PQ perspective relative to their price point.
How's the brightness on this? I'm looking for a garage/patio tv that will do ok outdoors with the backlight/brightness cranked
i got the 65" version of this specifically so i could watch tv while workng from home in my living room with sunlight coming in . I feel like its pretty good, but its maybe 600nits max. THe u7 or u8 is a lot brighter on paper, but this is much better than my previous ancient samsung tv

I'd go for the U7 for that application, budget allowing. 600 nits or so may be slightly on the low side but obviously we all have to work within budgets. It would probably work OK but how well would depend on the conditions in your location. Direct light will be tough for any TV for instance. Under a covered roof and open on the sides with no direct light then I think you would be good.
