No. $150 in three separate transactions would earn the 3600 bonus points.

1200 & 150 = 1350 points per $150 spent, which equals about $13.50 if you buy the gift cards with best redemption value like Home Depot.

Note: prime members would normally earn $7.50 rebate when using their prime visa CC. So this deal is really only valued at $6.00 or 4% rebate for those not using their prime Visa.

Not worth it for me. It's like buying a Home Depot gift card for 4% off.

You might have to add all offers to your card for it to pop up. I added 388 to mine. That's the only reason this one popped up. Probably not worth the effort.

Amex only displays about a maximum of 100 new offers.

Regarding AMEX travel redemption:

For non-business/first class travel, you can still get significant value from the points. I just purchased three Premium Economy tickets on British Airways to London, and the point value was close to 1.5 cents. I've been sitting on a lot of points and JUST missed a 40% boost on some of the transfer, so I could have had a slightly higher valuation.

$1800 cash outlay instead of $5000 is a nice redemption savings to me. I could have done better with a different airline, but I paid for convenience (direct flight) and a better travel experience over an Economy ticket. BA and Heathrow are murderous for fees, but that's what I needed.

I agree with your analysis. I calculate the value of an Amex point at around $0.007 and they are very hard to use. Only a couple of gift cards redeem at the $0.01 mark, like Home Depot and Darden, and those gift cards are the ones that frequently go on sale for more than 20% off using my Citi card. Other gift cards are sold for deep discounts at Costco or Sams. Gift cards that rarely go on sale, like Walmart, are redeemed at the $0.007 level.

The points can have a higher value when used for flights, however this does not apply to me. I accumulate so many airline and hotel points from work travel and from credit card signup bonuses that it has covered almost all of my personal travel for years. If you don't fly much and if you already have more gift cards than you can spend, then you will probably find that Amex points are not worth much.

How do you figure Amex Membership Rewards are worth 0.44¢ each? They can be redeemed for statement credit at 0.6¢ per point so 1,350 points is at minimum $8.10 or 5.4% return which is greater than 5.0% rebate from Prime Visa.

Most likely yes based on past tiered offers since it says "one or more transactions" so they'll keep a running total of how much you spend at the retailer after you activate the offer -- they'll give 1200pts each time your running total hits $150/$300/$450 spend and if you hit it in full on a single purchase then you get full 3600pts to max it out

If it said "spend $150 or more in a single transaction" then you would have to do it separately but the risk is up to you -- if you can split it then do that just to play it safe otherwise if you have a big purchase to make anyways then go for it

If you're buying regular items then you can always reload your Amazon account GC balance $150 at a time and use that to make the purchase -- if you're buying something that needs CC payment like gift cards then just pay for it directly

Prime visa is 5% , so that is $5 back on $150, not sure how you are calculating $7.5 for prime visa cc. This Amex deal even at its sucky cash redemption ratio will still give more than 5%
