and the vast majority of Americans used to eat raccoon in lieu of turkey prior to the 1940s so....
That was still going on in the 60s and 70s a bit.

I don't understand why this thread is on fire. Is no one giving away free turkeys anymore? I thought it was a thing if you spend $50 or $100 at many places. What makes this deal hot?

Oh damn. I didn't know about that.

But I do know that the south (esp the area near the mississippi river) still eat raccoon and St. Louis market has a stall for raccoon meat.

Comes to under $44 when I look at Aldi/Instacart pricing. Apologies if there's an error or something missing, but I"m pretty sure I got them all correct for my location

That explains why the 10lb bag of russets I bought yesterday there were so cheap.

It was still a thing here in Maryland. That and squirrels and snapping turtles. It was still pretty rural ten to twenty miles out of Baltimore and many lived what would be a very Southern lifestyle, outhouses and all.

Even in town where I came up pigeons were a regular food for some. Baltimore was full of people that came from the south. Never did eat one myself and my father brought one home frozen that somebody at the bar gave him but it just sat in the freezer for a decade or so.

Have to stop as I just realized I am an old man telling stories which is something that I catch myself doing way to much.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I know I'm late to the game, and maybe somebody already pointed this out, but purchasing this for a family in need could be a really great way to bless others during this season of giving thanks. (Also, as someone who grew up in the receiving end of food baskets, nothing excites a kid more than finding out there are a couple extra treats thrown in for good measure.)

This is a great deal!

Keep in mind that these are only the ingredients. Not a prepared meal.

Someone still has to chop and blend and measure and yell and get-rid-of-drunk-grandpa and grabby uncle Harold and prepare and cook the food.

I think some people are expecting a finished meal ready for pickup. Not the case.

Is there a trick to this or a coupon code. I found where it states the Thanksgiving deal, I added everything that was listed as available for the deal. It comes out to $53.83 before taxes and fees.

I understand that the price of food is so expensive. However, our government needs to make fresh food more affordable. Processed food is just not good.
