The black parts are plastic. Ive used it 5-7 times on a hot grill and it seems to hold up to the heat well.

don't use wire brush, they tend to leave pieces of wire on grill and well…. You don't want to have that in your food and end up in your stomach.

I will bite, pun intended, what should I use? Grill brick is expensive over time and leaves dust. Nothing else I have tried gets my bars shiny.

100% of the time after brushing, wipe with a cloth or something to make sure no bristles are left on bars. Google "grill bristle in throat" for pictures of what happens if you don't...or not.

I clean my grill with crumpled up aluminum foil and some tongs

I tried that once and it left tiny bits of aluminum on my grates. I have the black steel grates. Maybe it works better on smooth stainless bars

There is the continuous coil type of cleaners. Those can not leave a bristle behind since they don't have any .

I don't know about shiny but I do use a wire brush and then after cut a lemon in half and clean with that or an onion. Just push it back and forth on the grill.

It's a single coil so no bristles break off

I just let the fire clean the grill and then run a lemon/lime over it

A long-handled Palmyra brush and a spray bottle of water. Spray the bristles and scrub the hot grate. Spray and repeat until clean.

Once you use them for a while the wires break and you have the same issue as a bristle brush.
I use a ball of heavy duty aluminum foil. Occasionally it leaves some pieces on my cast iron grates that I scrape off with my turner. If I end up eating a stray piece it's not going to implant somewhere in my GI tract.
