Because ac produces an alternating magnetic field which is easy to measure as opposed to dc which doesn't and needs a Hall effect sensor with additional circuitry and blah blah blah

That answer isn't wrong.... but there are more influential reasons, this is why. Hall effect sensors are $.25 each and that is bought through amazon 40 pak. Manufacturers will buy it in larger bulk, maybe even straight from manufacturer also and will be less than $.25 each. A better answer would be market forces allows a higher price for DC current meters and so they can charge more. Maybe market demand isn't that high and so the manufacturers that compete via small margins haven't entered the market. That's just one possible market reasons why it is more expensive than ac.

So like everyone else is saying the special feature here is DC current measurement. Telecom providers often run DC gear in server racks. So if you're a data center technician in that space you MIGHT need one, but the problems that require them are usually going to require an electrician. So the need for this is niche to say the least. Soon the demand for this feature is going to climb because solar power, unlike all other methods of power generation, is natively direct current. As far as I know every other method of power generation convert mechanical energy into electrical energy by spinning generators. Generators natively create alternating current that needs to be "rectified" to DC, but you would only do that if you require DC for some reason. Solar panels natively create direct current that needs to be converted to AC to provide power to the grid.

The specifications say this measures AC current. Where are you getting the idea that it measures DC current?

Picked up this KAIWEETS HT206D Digital Clamp Meter [amazon.com] T-RMS 6000 Counts, Multimeter Voltage Tester Auto-ranging, Measures Current Voltage Temperature Capacitance Resistance Diodes Continuity Duty-Cycle (AC/DC Current) back in July for $30 on an Amazon deal;; currently about $40 after coupon.

Its a lot more capable than this Fluke and a better deal IMO.

That answer isn't wrong exactly, but... IMHO DC Clamp Meters are much more useable and therefore s/b in higher demand.

Hmm, more usable eh ? maybe, in certain situations. However, think about ac circuits, is found in every home in every country world wide. That's a large user base, a very large user base.
