Because ac produces an alternating magnetic field which is easy to measure as opposed to dc which doesn't and needs a Hall effect sensor with additional circuitry and blah blah blah

That answer isn't wrong.... but there are more influential reasons, this is why. Hall effect sensors are $.25 each and that is bought through amazon 40 pak. Manufacturers will buy it in larger bulk, maybe even straight from manufacturer also and will be less than $.25 each. A better answer would be market forces allows a higher price for DC current meters and so they can charge more. Maybe market demand isn't that high and so the manufacturers that compete via small margins haven't entered the market. That's just one possible market reasons why it is more expensive than ac.

You're on this site to look for items to impulsively and recklessly buy without regard for real need. Whether you need this or not is not a matter that matters to anyone, you have to buy it. Find ways to use it after you get it.

The specifications say this measures AC current. Where are you getting the idea that it measures DC current?
I have the same question after reading all the comments here.

I need a DC meter but would accept a AC/DC meter.

It doesn't measure DC. I don't think the guy was suggesting that, but in any case, it doesn't.

Fluke has been sucking the government tit for a long time and have grown completely detached from all market metrics, which explains this current "promotion".

Tell me why I need this.
You probably don't. I do a fair bit as a hobbyist and I probably Havant needed one of these ten times.
I barely even need one at work where I use a multimeter everyday.

Not sure why this comment hasn't gotten EVERY upvote ever. This IS why we are here.

Can I use this to test whether a fuse is good or not in my car?
Absolutely, it's the most basic function of a multimeter and this is beyond overkill but it can do it. Even something for < $20 would be more than adequate. This having DC capabilities is the only reason you'd consider if you're looking to work on your car / cars in general.

Great for the at home audio heads or budget mechanics. Can read your vehicles voltage etc tell if the alt is charging all while being a fluke after all for $59
A kaiweets meter from Amazon will do more amps, more volts, AC+DC, and many more functions for less money.

If you really want a Fluke because you have a job that specifies you need to use a Fluke, sure ... To me this meter is extreeeeemely basic.

So like everyone else is saying the special feature here is DC current measurement. Telecom providers often run DC gear in server racks. So if you're a data center technician in that space you MIGHT need one, but the problems that require them are usually going to require an electrician. So the need for this is niche to say the least. At least for the moment. Soon the demand for this feature is going to climb because solar power, unlike all other methods of power generation, is natively direct current. As far as I know every other method of power generation convert mechanical energy into electrical energy by spinning generators. Generators natively create alternating current that needs to be "rectified" to DC, but you would only do that if you require DC for some reason. Solar panels natively create direct current that needs to be converted to AC to provide power to the grid.
Suggest you study Tesla (the genius) vs Edison. One movie: "The Current War". There are many.
