Halo is a good company for recessed lights (older style deep cans and newer style canless) however the market is flooded with recessed led can lights, many of which are significantly thinner than this version from halo. Most of them are also significantly cheaper than what halo is charging.

The thinner stuff is garbage, way too much glare. Halo RL lights are awesome, dim 2 warm feature.

The flat stuff is so its the thickness of drywall and you can install over a joist. This type of light is 90 degree cone aimed down. They add a little drama. Its all a design choice. For most people that have center room boob lights, this is an upgrade. But if you are going for a designed look you just have to buy and spend what it takes
