except you likely have to service it unless you throw it away for a while. servicing cost 100x more than changing battery.
that said, I have a 1960s seiko5 (7606 movement) that runs fine (+20s per day) and from the look of it, it's never been serviced. I adjusted the timing slightly and now it's about +5 a day. Surely it'll be able to perform better with a full service but why?

As an FYI, the 7s26 movement is very dated but extremely reliable. It cannot be hand wound and it does not hack (stop the second hand when the crown is pulled out). You likely won't ever feel the need to service the watch in your lifetime, but if you do, it'll be cheaper to buy a replacement movement. You can find a Seiko nh3x movement, which can hand wind and hack, for well under $50 currently.

Fantastic watch to enter the rabbit hole of mechanical watches. My only criticism is the crown is a little difficult to pull out sometimes because it's very low profile

I had this watch ages ago, it's also known as the Seiko Speed Racer as the dial looks a bit like a RPM gauge. The watch performed well and gave me no issues before I gave it away.

Do note that the band is not great quality but a simple rolled link type.

i don't have a seiko but obviously the 5 is legendary. I just wish it was larger. I have large wrists for my short self and anything smaller than 42mm looks like a kids watch.

China. These days, it's mostly their high high end seikos and all their grand seikos that are made in japan

These smaller Seiko 5 autos are my go-to gift for graduations, young people at a first watch, etc. They look great, keep good time, have day/date, and are really impressive for a watch newbie. They are also the perfect unisex size and look great on either men or women's wrists.
