I bought this last year for same price. When it works, the interface is fast and responsive. Rewinding, navigating, etc. is all very good. The app integration is also very good and I use the app as the remote more than the physical remote. Connecting headphones to your phone/app instead of the TV is also pretty handy. My biggest gripe is that the Roku freezes or restarts itself A LOT, especially with certain apps like Max (HBO). I haven't been able to solve this. My theory is that the unit is overheating or maxing out. I have to physically unplug the power to the box many times to restart it. I do think it's worth $34 and the experience is better than my Chromecast and Fire stick.

I have an older Roku. There are a couple apps that cause problems, but not all. I presume it's the apps, not the Roku.
Yes, but in the end if you use 3 apps and all 3 crashes because they are all badly written (on the Roku) meanwhile those same apps don't crash on google tv or tv, it doesn't matter if the Roku hardware is superior to chromecast, in your use case it won't work for you.
Get the onn 4k streaming box from Wal mart. $50. Has ethernet port. I have a Synology four bay nas I paid $500 for last xmas. Just watched the terminator 4k rip 60 gigs and it didn't skip at all.

I purchased this a while ago for the same price, and I would absolutely recommend the Apple TV over this. The Roku was perfectly usable at first, but after a few months, it started lagging and having various issues (Bluetooth connections, apps crashing, etc). I tried factory resetting it, but that didn't help much. I understand the Apple TV is significantly more expensive, but in my opinion it's worth it if you can afford it (I got the Apple TV on sale for $90 at Verizon). The Apple TV is way faster (same chip as iPhone 14 so should remain fast for a long time), content and UI looks noticably sharper, apps are better optimized, nice integration with other Apple devices, etc. That being said, I may not be aware of specific use-cases for the Roku that aren't possible with the Apple TV.
I guess that I'm in the minority, but I hated the AppleTV remote and returned it. Buttons are hard to see/feel in the dark and the Roku remote is much more tactile to me.
You're mixing terms. It doesn't ENCODE anything. I would suggest the chip wills struggle with decoding native HEVC 4k encoded files. Plex can re-encode on the fly if the server has enough juice.
I would do some googling to work out if the chips strong enough.
Doesn't have Dobly Atmos decoding like the regular Ultra. Really not much difference than a Roku streaming stick 4k+ which is cheaper on sale. Besides 1gb more ram on Ultra they have the same capabilities of 4k60fps, same processor(ARM Cortex A55) . So Lt will load apps a little faster but not much of a difference. If you want the best id go with the Ultra not the Ultra LT. ULTRA(NON LT) gets you Dolby Atmos Decoding. A huge difference if you have an Atmos capable sound system or sound bar or home theater receiver and proper Atmos speaker setup or and older receiver. Just an FYI. Get what's best for your situation. All required a hdcp 2.2 connection and obviously 4k capable tv for 4k output.
edit this strictly speaking Roku products. If you want to try alternatives and spend more Nvidia Shield TV Pro for $200 is a major upgrade with lossless audio. Onn makes a decent one also in the Google TV style with their Onn Google TV 4k Pro that has Dolby vision and Atmos at $50 with a 5 dollar off manufacturers offer making it $45. They have a cheaper one for 20 that does 4k HDR, 2gb ram a35 arm quad-core, no Dolby vision or Atmos.

It's not the Roku's fault the developer wrote bad code. That's all there is to it. Frame it any way you want, but Roku doing a "fix" is not going to happen, it's not Roku's fault.
To my point, one of my problem apps... wait for it... eventually updated and the crashing stopped.
