Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

Does Walmart carry these phones for Verizon in store ?

Essentially - 1) go to Walmart and get the phone using the Verizon rep that maybe there and activate in-store? 2) wait for a day before going to Verizon store to payoff device and cancel the line ?

I have to say BIG THANKS to ProudToBeAnIndian for another killer iPhone deal. Folks, the long and short of these deals is this: it's a bit of a hassle to jump through all the hoops, i.e. signing up for Verizon service, but canceling withing 72 hours, etc.; however, in the end it works out just like the OP has laid out in several previous posts and you save a good chunk of money to get a brand spankin' new phone that will unlock in 60 days for less than you will find anywhere else. Big Ups to this SD'er who I've personally benefited from twice this year.
Thanks for appreciation . Enjoy your new phone. Big Grin

I went through this process with Verizon a few days ago (but for a $399 deal from a different thread. I'm still butthurt over this lol). I don't have a Walmart nearby so I had it shipped. To answer your questions first
  • There is no option to pay off the device on the app or with an agent on the phone, as it's been less than 30 days. So you have to go to a store
  • At the store, you will be asked to pay $299 cash. No option for credit card or debit card
  • You can cancel the line RIGHT after paying off the device while you are still at the store. I was told by the store clerk that you can't cancel the line before paying off the device. So it would have to be in this order
Additional information for those who are considering this
  • The phone took 4 days to be delivered. The clock for the 3-day-activation window starts when it ships. So if you are having it delivered, expect to give up the activation fee and a few days' worth of pro-rated monthly plan
  • Expect the activation fee + pro-rated balance to be around 45 - 48 dollars, including tax, depending on how quickly it was shipped to you. So your total out of pocket = 299 + tax on the phone + 48
  • Depending on who you talk to at the store or on the phone, you may hear a different story about whether the phone will still unlock in 60 days, since you cancelled the service early. So really we are just going by other people's word who apparently went through this in previous years
Well explained. Thank you so much.

I haven't received the activation email yet. Also, it feels a bit strange to be asked to pay off the phone while also being asked to cancel the service. Is there any way to cancel the service online or over the phone, rather than doing it in person at a Verizon store?

Approved by verizon and placed order successfully on 11/13 at 2AM. Order canceled by walmart at 5AM. Is there anyone else having the same issue?
Which color/storage did you order?

quick question. given that you got in the deal last year and cancelled, when you signup again, do you sign up as a new customer. Just wanted to be certain before I purchase. Thanks!

As I understand, the phone will be unlocked automatically if I cancel the service within 3 days and no longer have active service. Is that correct?
Also, I won't be able to use the phone within those 60 days because the service is no longer active. Is that correct?

Looking to do an upgrade on my ATT line, im getting these just so that i can pay it off and turn them around for a good trade in value to get a different phone. Do i need to activate these or can i just receive the product, pay it off and submit it for a trade in? I like my current device and dont want to switch to an iphone 14.
Is there an iphone pro somewhere to trade in the 14? BB trade does not need to be unlocked.

Anyone confirm if you can get this in store? I'd rather just do it and be done. No waiting and hassle of the setup myself.
If they have it in stock.
