Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

Last year with the iPhone 13 deal, I paid $298+ tax at Walmart store and left $1 balance as the agent told me that I can't pay off the phone before the first month bill is generated. Then as suggested by many in the deal thread I added a credit card in my Verizon account and next day called Verizon customer service number and paid that $1 off by phone using the automated options. After that canceled the line via chat. I am not sure why this is not an option anymore.
Hope that's the case - if not I'll be sure to visit a corporate store. What someone else said, they would only take cash?? Maybe it was an authorized reseller?

OMG the charges are crazy... Granted, I'm waiting for these phones to arrive tomorrow to cancel them but the charges for next month are as follows (note that I have 4 lines, so this will go up to six):

One time charges/credits:
Unlimited Welcome 11/12 to 11/19 $6.10
Activation fee $35

Monthly charges/credits:
Unlimited Welcome 11/19 to 12/18 $27 ($10 autopay credit)
Device Payment 1 of 36 $8.50

Surcharges $11.84
Taxes and gov fees $5.04

Total for line $93.48, then drops off to $40.62
Same here. $86

And that's with 4 main lines. On unlimited ultimate. I picked the cheapest plan for this line .

Keep us updated with the process of paying/cancelling.

Hopefully I get mine tomorrow and I don't miss the fedex driver

I was one of the first to order. Got my iPhone 14 yesterday. I upgraded from an ATT line. Paid it off yesterday. Sent the unlock request today and now it's unlocked. Easy and fast. Maybe it's because I've had ATT for 5 years so it might be different for others.
Wait don't you have to wait 60 days before att would unlock your phone? Am I missing anything?

The condition to unlock for ATT is
  1. phone is paid off
  2. the phone number that assign with the phone is active more than 60 days.
In this case it work for him because he is upgrade the phone of his existing number ( 5 years old line ) so it satisfied both condition above.

For new customer when you buy the phone, you open a new line and that new number register to the iphone, which why you wont be able to request unlock right away.

The trick last year when people swap the sim card is activate the phone with a different number ( prepaid or un-active sim card) that way the iphone register the inactive number, so when the automate system pull request to unlock on the server, they dont see the new number but see the inactive number , then it trick the system and satisfy both condition above and will allow the unlock request to go thru.

What's the best way for me to get the deal? I've been with my provider Mint for 3 months now. Can I walk into a Walmart and get the deal and pay off the phone right then and there? Do I still need use/pay for ATT service on the phone for 2 months? Would appreciate any insight or help!

So if I pay off and close my account within 3 days there will be no way for the phone to unlock? I was planning to use the phone with cricket.

The shipping confirmation from Walmart reads that on switching the device ON will activate the line for Verizon. I saw few from last year has mentioned it as activated on shipping. Can someone confirm their recent experience?

As far as i can tell you, there is no other way unless you can perform the sim swap trick again. but IP14 no longer have sim tray. and to activate you need esim. swapping esim is another problem. That why people go with Verizon instead, cause they automatic unlock after 60 days

My experience from last year, i bought the phone then paid it off, request unlock. It went through but i didnt click the confirm email( you have 24 hrs to confirm) so it never finished the unlock process. i didnt know and proceed with cancel the line. Then my phone stuck in limbo cause i already paid it off, cant return it, request unlock wont go thru cause the number assigned to the phone was deleted as i cancelled. i spent weeks talk to over 25 ATT agent. i escalate to special tech team and whichever team above that. So the way ATT unlock is submitted request thru automation system then it will sent to Apple server to unlock. The agent have no control over that system.

I end up used the phone on another number for 60 days then i request unlock and it go through.

So whats real total for this phone is you pay it off in a months, I see if you pay over 36 months, then you get the cheap price but you have to have a plan with Verizon for that whole time and not the pay off amount.

Activated on shipping. The two I ordered shipped yesterday and today I got the email from Verizon. Logged into the account and sure enough, both devices have phone numbers assigned and show activation date of yesterday.

Phones are still on a truck in FL but somehow are supposed to be delivered tomorrow.. If not there goes the $35 activation fee... (they are for relatives and are aware of the potential of having to pay the $35 even a month of service).

$299. You pay off about $8.50 a month for 36 months. There are no device credits. Device unlocks after 60 days. You can pay it off at any time. You can cancel the service at any time after you pay off the device.
