- You need to establish a Verizon account
- Go to Account, Bill, Payment methods
- Add a credit card
- If you have other Verizon lines, make sure you verify your Auto Pay is still pointing to the bank account
- From a NON Verizon phone, call 800-837-4966
- Enter the phone number for the line you want to pay off
- Tell the robo attendant "pay off device"
- Robo attendant will confirm the payoff amount ($299) and if you would like to process on credit card ending in xxxx (what you have on file)
- * Say yes, and that's it.
*** How to update Apple purchase date ***
- From your Verizon online account, go to Account, Bill, Documents & receipts
- Download the Customer Agreement PDF that has the service agreement and IMEI (shown as Device ID), and barcodes
- Go to https://checkcoverage.a
pple.com - Enter serial number
- If it says no purchase date found, continue to create a case and request a call back
- Upload the PDF
- After the call back they said it could take up to 5 days for the date to be reflected
- I checked the serial after 5 minutes and it was updated
*** Request early unlock (huge YMMV but worth a shot) ***
- Login to your Verizon account
- Start a chat
- Ask them to submit a "request for early SIM unlock on your behalf"
- For reason, simply say "device is paid in full"
- Be ready for some pushback or if you want PUK unblock, or porting pin - just state the same
- If they say it cannot be done, tell them politely that you are aware they cannot do it, and they need to send a request up the line
- In my case they send to contact in 10 days (not holding my breath this will actually happen but worth a shot)
*** Disconnectiong line ***
- Login to your Verizon account
- Start a chat
- Request an agent
- If asked, about plans/service
- Say disconnect line
- They will try to offer you other options or to disconnect at a later date
- Insist you need the line disconnected now
- If asked for a reason, say you cannot give them one
- Verify total under Account, Bill, Next bill estimate - about $7 for 3 days of service
*** Instant unlock using SIM Swap for ATT (YMMV) ***
- After getting the phone and paying it off fully, make some calls/texts and make sure it shows up on ATT account
- Transfer the eSIM to an unlocked, steps might vary depending on iPhone/android.
- Make some calls with that phone and make sure it shows up on the account now.
- Now go to ATT.com/device unlock and select non ATT customer and provide imei.
- Make sure you reply yes to the confirmation email ATT sends
- Only cancel the account after you are able to unlock.

dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.
Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.
If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

Also, does your verizon order show the imei and/or serial number of the device ?
I was joking with a coworker that recently bought a new 13 mini from eBay sealed that showed the warranty expired, that he got a used phone.
couple of issued i am having.
1 - walmart did not email the activation instructions.
2 - i dont have the option to link credit card to my verizon account.

Also I wonder what they will price the iPhone 15 as, because currently it's $18.09/month, or approximately $649 total cost. With a gift card for $500, it wouldn't be a bad deal. But one downside to more expensive phones is that you have more money invested in it from the outset. I guess for people who spend lot at Walmart on a regular basis, this would be good. Or as another commenter wrote, if for those who still want to remain loyal to Verizon or AT&T for the next 36 months and who want to upgrade more than one phone to use one gift card (provided they get the gift card delivered instantly) as a down payment toward a second device.
Sams club has the same deal $300 GC off on Iphone 16 now with new line transfer.
Based on the discussions in this thread, it sounds like once I receive the phone, my steps should be:
1. activate the phone
2. pay it off
3. cancel service within three days of activation
4. get the physical sim in my current phone reassigned to the 14 as an eSim
Anyone done this before? I dont need the phone to be unlocked, I just need to transfer my sim/current number to it. Primarily, I just want to make sure I dont screw something up and make the phone unusable with my current att account. If anyone has some experience with a scenario like this, I would appreciate your insight.
To preface this I already had a Verizon account but it was a Verizon Home account (FIOS) not a mobile account.
Ordered 2 phones on 11/12 (both as new accounts but used my Verizon account email address)
Shipped 11/14 - Estimated delivery 11/18
Got 2 emails that the email address associated with each respective account was changed (I'm assuming because the email address was associated with a Verizon Home account not a Verizon mobile account)
Attempted to add one phone number to my account but would not let me without verifying against a text from phone which I obviously did not have yet.
Attempted to add a Verizon One ID to combine my home account with a mobile account which asks for a mobile phone number and doing this I was successfully able to link 1 of my 2 new devices to my Verizon account.
I see the device in my Verizon account with the esim ID so I believe Verizon authorizes the esim for the device as soon as it ships.
I was NOT able to link my 2nd phone to my account as it still needs a verification via text.
Now I will wait until phones arrive, turn them on and ensure they are active on Verizon network, get the 2nd one linked to my account. Then I will follow the instructions in this thread to add cc, payoff devices, and use chat to cancel service. I expect to pay the activation fee+prorated service.
