Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

Look below the first post. There's a Wiki (a post that has info about the deal).

Is there a specific reason why majority are getting the Verizon iPhone?
I'm on AT&T prepaid and don't mind if the phone is locked. Can I order the AT&T version, pay it off and only pay for 1 month of service?
Verizon unlocks automatically after 60 days and cancelling within 3 days of shipping avoids the activation fee, so you pay only for 3 days of service (about $7 in my case).

All I know is AT&T you need to request the unlock after 60 days. No idea if you can also cancel everything and only pay for a couple of days and no activation fee.

After I paid the Verizon version iPhone 14 off, activated it and canceled the Verizon line, can I use it with a Xfinity sim for the first two months? And can it still get unlocked automatically after two month even I used a Xfinity sim?
No, as the phone would be locked to Verizon for 60 days.

So what is the total price of the iphone after all said and done?
Walmart - sales tax collected at time of purchase, based on $299
Verizon - payoff of $299
Verizon - service $7-$10 if you cancel within 3 days of shipping

If you cancel more than 3 days after shipping, expect to pay another $3 per day of service, plus $35 activation fee.

For everyone who rushed to cancel before receiving the phone:
Is it actually worthy to save $35 by risking unlock-ability of the phone?
My understanding is that these phones are activated by Verizon hence they should be auto unlocked after 60 days.

My concern is with something happening to a phone - paying it off before having it on hand.

So can you break the lease? Then what is the point of them giving you a phone for so cheap if you can break the lease and give them a middle finger?
Not sure how it works but my understanding is that Verizon gains a potential customer with little risk this way. Walmart on the other hand is trying to get rid of these hence why they offer them for cheap.

Typically the carriers would lure you with credits over time, as a way of keeping you paying them for service.

It would have been much easier for Walmart to simply sell them for $299 instead of forcing you to take on a lease, which you can break at any time. But it's easy to get a customer to buy into this by offering a low per month price.

They've done it before for black friday, though I don't think they did it last year with the 15.
They used to offer GCs for the prior year model. Then a few years ago they went with two year old models. Unless I see a scan of an ad, I wouldn't trust just "some guy"

For Verizon, It seems for some the phone is activated before shipping but for others the phone needs to get activated after receiving. Unsure what is causing this different behavior. Is it safe to assume if you can see the phone/IMEI on your Verizon account then it has already been activated and the 60 day clock has started?

The clock starts ticking the moment Verizon activates it, which is supposed to happen when Walmart actually scans the package the first time going out. When that happens, it will show up on the account and you'll get an email the next day.

In my case, I ordered two phones on 11/11 and they shipped on 11/12. On 11/13 I got an email from Verizon that the devices were activated and I had documents to review. In the online account, I found the customer agreements PDFs which showed the effective date of 11/12. The estimated bill was already adjusted and included service from 11/12 to 11/19 (my bill cycle) plus activation fees, and also next month of service.

I received the phones yesterday 11/14. I paid them off and then canceled the lines and had to make sure they made them effective yesterday and not the end of the bill cycle. Right after that, the estimated bill was adjusted to include 3 days of service 11/12 to 11/14 of $7.67 per line ($2.61 for service, $3,90 surcharge, $1.16 gov and tax fees) and activation charge credited (ie zero).

From the numbers, based on $40 for Unlimited Welcome, it seems they only charged me for two days, so maybe I had until today to do all this and not be charged the activation fee, but not sure..

i contacted Verizon this morning for my phone number/account number, I provide them with my email/order number/SSN/name & DOB, nothing came up, also contacted walmart to try to get my phone number, i was told that my plan have not been activated, i will have to bring it back to walmart to get it activated, my assumption is that walmart is processing too many iphone orders that they did not have time to activated before shipping them out to customer.

Ok based on this and others posted, It'sa big ymmv cancelling within 3 days of shipping/order right? Meaning, good chance most of us will have to pay $35 activation
