Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

For everyone who rushed to cancel before receiving the phone:
Is it actually worthy to save $35 by risking unlock-ability of the phone?
Asking the same, any data points?

i contacted Verizon this morning for my phone number/account number, I provide them with my email/order number/SSN/name & DOB, nothing came up, also contacted walmart to try to get my phone number, i was told that my plan have not been activated, i will have to bring it back to walmart to get it activated, my assumption is that walmart is processing too many iphone orders that they did not have time to activated before shipping them out to customer.
Is your phone already shipped?

How do i order second phone if I already cancelled my account with Verizon? Should i be a new customer or add new line to existing Verizon account? Looks like the account is still active without any lines

Im confused. Do I still need to create a Verizon account after I receive the phone? Or was the "sign up through Walmart" page when I entered all my details in for the verizon credit check me creating the account? I'm getting emails from them now but it says my zip code isn't correct when I try to go to forgot user id... even though it is. Should I call verizon and they might be able to help me??

From my very bad personal experience . I want you to all know that there's many misleading posts here.If you're a new Verizon customer. You won't be able to buy this phone off Before 30 days!

Yet plenty of people have posted to this thread being new Verizon customers and been able to successfully pay this phone off within days of ordering/getting it.

My understanding is that these phones are activated by Verizon hence they should be auto unlocked after 60 days.

My concern is with something happening to a phone - paying it off before having it on hand.
The lines are activated. I suspect phone being activated is different thing if you haven't turned on the iPhone with an active line.
In earlier deals, TF ST or even metro, people always advise making a phone call after activation to make sure the phone is actually activated and would unlock.

I am (was at this point) a new Verizon customer. Here is the timeline: Placed order for a new line on 11th, shipped on 12th, received on 13th. Verified the line is active on 14th, went to Verizon store paid of $299.00 and canceled the line by calling Verizon customer service later in the day. I can't seem to add for online access, so don't know what will be final amount that I will owe but I will wait for the bill.

One question I have, I never opened the new phone in entire process, would it still be unlocked after 60 days? Or would there be an issue?

Just got the phone, turned it on. Registered on Verizon and updated my payment information. Called the number as in the wiki and said "Pay off device", it keeps checking and saying will transfer to customer service to pay it off. Online shows nothing to pay off.

Should I be waiting sometime after turning ON the phone to try paying it off?

YMMV, I had a similar situation as you but with the iPhone SE3. Bought, paid off and cancelled by the phone is still sim locked. Been more than 60 days. I need to chat with them or call them up to have them unlock. Don't really care about unlocking at this point as I am using it more as a control device for some home appliances.

It's very possible.. So a few years ago, I did similar deals, one time with an Xr and another time with an 11. Then, the deals were a $400 GC and device payment of the full amount over 2 years.

With both phones, I was never able to get them activated and ended up just swapping SIM cards from the old phones (I was upgrading from older phones).

One phone I was never charged for ever by Verizon. Looks like Walmart never sent over the finance agreement to them. The other one, Walmart sent the finance agreement after six months.
