Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

I just spoke with Verizon customer service, who told me the activation date (shows shipped on Walmart website, but not in transit yet on Lasership) was today, gave me the account #, but phone will not arrive until 11/19 per the Walmart website. Has anyone paid off the device and cancelled service prior to receiving the phone?

Both of my phones are with lasership with no updates. I assume if you don't get the phone they can't make you on the hook for anything?

Still same since morning
I went ahead and cancelled the line since the device is marked paid off. Not sure where it takes me. I definitely don't want to end up paying the $75 first month along with activation which simply kills the deal.

I will consider ordering another just in case as a backup plan.

Thoughts?

I really appreciate your help. Just to make sure I do everything correctly:
0)pay off the locked att iPhone
1) I activate the new locked phone and make a call and make sure it's registered in the myatt portal.
2) I will use an unlocked I phone and swap the esim from the locked iPhone to the unlocked one!
3)make a call from the unlocked one and make sure it shows on myatt portal
4) request to unlock the phone
Are those steps correct?
That's correct!

So regardless of Verizon or ATT you must wait 60 days to unlock this, correct?
No, that's not correct. With atnt you can unlock almost immediately or the next day

Buyers beware! here's the AT&T unlocking policy:https://www.att.com/legal/modal/i...58553.html
According to the policy "Your service must be active for at least 60 days with no past due or unpaid balance"
So you need an active service for 60 days and can't just cancel the line in 3 days!
Don't believe everything you're told here ! read the policy!
Not true! I already got my attn iPhone unlocked the next day after I received it you just gotta know what steps to take to do it

"*** How to pay off with credit card ***
1.You need to establish a Verizon account
2. Go to Account, Bill, Payment methods
3. Add a credit card
4. If you have other Verizon lines, make sure you verify your Auto Pay is still pointing to the bank account
5. From a NON Verizon phone, call 800-837-4966
6. Enter the phone number for the line you want to pay off
7. Tell the robo attendant "pay off device"
8. Robo attendant will confirm the payoff amount ($299) and if you would like to process on credit card ending in xxxx (what you have on file)
9.* Say yes, and that's it."

OK, I ordered 11/12, it shipped 11/14, but as of today, lasership tracking still says only "label created", so it hasn't really shipped while Walmart account says it will be delivered on Monday, Nov. 18.

Anyway, I followed the above steps, and continued until step 8. Everything went as described above, but I chose to stop at step 9 because I just don't want to pay it off even without knowing that the thing has already shipped. I think the instructions are perfectly legit. I am a new Verizon customer. I saved the phone number during order to create the verizon account after it supposedly shipped on 11/14 and was able to link the account to the new number.

Worst case scenario, once I receive the phone, days after 11/14, if I don't open the box, can I return it to verizon to get a full refund, i.e. without paying for activation or prorated services?
After placing order online, when you received the account information from Verizon over email?

it is in contract which you sign with walmart while placing order. or activate phone once you receive so you can link with phone number instead. or wait for them to send you invoice at your address in a week or two of placing order. except first, the rest of the options would likely not happen within 3 days windows.

I am planning to do same. Looks like the system allowing to cancel, as the system shows the device is already paid off. Did you get the activation fee waived? and what is your final bill.

Does anyone know what gift card deal was offered last Black Friday at Walmart? Also was the gift card delivered instantly when purchased in store and could the GC be applied to the purchase of a second phone?
