Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

can we get AT&T version, pay for 36 months upfront and unlock it immediately? Trying to get one for my son...
Yup, see my posts above but it is YMMV as few reported SIM swap didn't work for them. It's possible steps were not followed properly

Some questions:
  1. Does the unlocked phone to transfer the eSIM have to be the same platform as the ATT phone (e.g. ATT iPhone -> unlocked iPhone, ATT Android -> unlocked Android)?
  2. AFAIK, for iPhone -> iPhone, it's pretty easy to transfer the eSIM. But for iPhone -> Android or Android -> Android or Android -> iPhone, the eSIM has to be removed from the source phone and then activated on the target phone (e.g. get a new QR code from the carrier). Does the action of removing the eSIM from the ATT phone and activate it on the unlocked phone satisfy eSIM "swapping"?
No, it can be any platform but eSIM has to removed from source phone to the unlocked phone. I have only done physical SIM swap many times successfully but never done an eSIM swap but I guess using the QR code is the method, you need to make sure you are transferring the same eSIM though, not provisioning a new one.

1. Yeah, see https://slickdeals.net/f/17237209-samsung-galaxy-s22-128gb-phantom-black-at-amp-t-149?attrsrc=Thread%3AExpired%3ATrue&src=SiteSearchV2Algo1 for example.

2.Yes, or an iPhone but YMMV and I have only done physical SIM swap with Android phones but someone in this thread confirmed it worked for them with iPhone and eSIM

1 this is NOT true, sim swap is NOT always working for locked ATT Android phone.
if the line is NOT a new one (AKA more than 60 days old), even you do an upgrade, it can be unlocked immediately with swap method. But if the line is completely new, it can not be unlocked

here is the DP

The SIM swap is to be done with a new line but as I mentioned it's YMMV and depends on if you have followed the steps properly. Locked iPhone to unlocked android should also work but you do have to make sure you are transferring the eSIM properly and not provisioning the new one. If this fails, you can always request unlock after 60 days (even if you cancel the account) as per their policy.

Do we have to open the package or can it stay sealed in box for 60 days wait? I wanted to give it as gift after it is unlocked. Also, is it brand new or refurbished?

i am a veteran for ATT locked phone (iphone and android both), and I am quite familiar with the steps.

my latest DP with Android is in May 2024, sim swap is not working any more, It was working with S22 deal Bestbuy ATT deal in 2022.

maybe it would have better to divide the forum room into 2 threads. A Verizon thread and a ATT thread. I know I just wanted a Verizon thread to find out how to UNLOCK the phone in 60 days.

I did decide to go with the Straight talk iphone 13 for 199 for phone and silver plan for 45 dollars, I got the phone, activated it with silver plan and immediately got the UNLOCK date of jan 15th 2025.

No hoops to jump, and peace of mind. I would have liked to buy the phone in this thread for 100 dollars more, but it really was too confusing for me. Congrats if Verizon iphone 14 worked for you and only 100 more than iphone 13 (I am enjoying the iphone 13, so I am happy).

you have to open the box and let the phone touch the network

all the Walmart iphone is reseller flex varaint, it has to be activated with a carrier then such carrier can request an unlock from apple.

You need to call in to activate, then get the new number. I did the same. But still unable to payoff - the system is not updated so it's says the phone is already paid off.
Any success in paying it off? I called the number and was sent a link to the Verizon Assistant. If I check it through the Verizon Assistant, it says the phone is paid off and no payment is needed.

Thanks the OP for posting this deal.
It works for me. I do this with Verizon.

Here are some notes:
I placed order on Nov 13rd. The phone arrived on Nov 16th.
This came brand new and locked and inactive.
I had to turn on, connected to Wifi and get it activated.
As far as the Verizon login, here is my case: When I placed order through Walmart, I have to create a Verizon account to complete the purchase. That's when I setup the PIN with Verizon. They will need your PIN later on to do some verification. Although I created a password for a new account, I couldn't login using that password. It asked for the zipcode. I tried some zipcode but it didn't work. I had to chat with Verizon to get access to my online account. They will text some link to your new number in your new phone to link the online account with the billing account. I see someone in this thread said that they can complete everything even though they haven't received/opened the phone. In my case, I have to have my phone handy because they send the text to that phone.

Once I gained access to my online Verizon account, I added the credit card in the payment method. Then called the automatic system to pay off the balance of the phone ($299).

Once paying off, I made a request using my online account to disconnect the service. However, the request was scheduled to next month, meaning I have to pay for one month of service + activation fee. I chat with the online agent, asking to disconnect the line today and also waive the activation fee. They adjusted my account, remove the activation fee. But the balance due is still one month of service. I mentioned that and they adjusted the balance again to be only $8.88. I immediately paid that last balance due.
Now I have to wait for 60 days for the phone to be unlocked. I had purchased the similar deal with Total Wireless, which is also Verizon and their unlock policy is the same (60 days). We shouldn't worry about that unlocking period.

So, total of the deal is $299 + $26 tax + $8.88 (2-day service) ~ $333.

The current price of the same phone 14 256G on Apple.com is ~ $786 (all inclusive)

I received final invoice from verizon and looks like I am being charged activation fee despite cancelling on third day of placing order.

Dont they waive automatically or do we have to talk to them for waiver?

Yes, don't disconnect the line before activating the phone. The phone needs to be registered in the network before you can request unlock or do SIM swap
