Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

For those who purchased Verizon, were you able to get phone unlocked? How about those that purchased AT&T deal, did the eSIM swap work for you?

If you haven't gotten an answer by tomorrow i'll let you know: I went the att route.

Brand new line/account, paid off the device this morning before receiving it. Have an unlocked iPhone that will receive the eSIM. iPhone 14 comes in tomorrow.

maybe it would have better to divide the forum room into 2 threads. A Verizon thread and a ATT thread. I know I just wanted a Verizon thread to find out how to UNLOCK the phone in 60 days.I did decide to go with the Straight talk iphone 13 for 199 for phone and silver plan for 45 dollars, I got the phone, activated it with silver plan and immediately got the UNLOCK date of jan 15th 2025. No hoops to jump, and peace of mind. I would have liked to buy the phone in this thread for 100 dollars more, but it really was too confusing for me. Congrats if Verizon iphone 14 worked for you and only 100 more than iphone 13 (I am enjoying the iphone 13, so I am happy).
yes - I agree with you. Straight talk was pretty straightforward. I have already spent 4-5 hrs with Verizon to get this thing disconnected/suspended - they keep on screwing up the first bill. Also 2 hrs with Apple to get the purchase date updated. 😒

i am a veteran for ATT locked phone (iphone and android both), and I am quite familiar with the steps.

my latest DP with Android is in May 2024, sim swap is not working any more, It was working with S22 deal Bestbuy ATT deal in 2022.
Ah, I now understand what you meant. Someone in this thread verified eSIM swap works though? The SIM swap as a method should not be dependent on Android or iOS as far as I understand. It's to make ATT think which phone was in the network and now not associated with an account anymore and hence can be unlocked.

Do we have to open the package or can it stay sealed in box for 60 days wait? I wanted to give it as gift after it is unlocked. Also, is it brand new or refurbished?
Yes, you will leave to activate the phone in the network before doing SIM swap or request unlock.

Please keep us posted if SIM swap still works. If that fails, you can still request unlock after 60 days as per ATT policy even without active service.

you have to open the box and let the phone touch the network

all the Walmart iphone is reseller flex varaint, it has to be activated with a carrier then such carrier can request an unlock from apple.
Thank you Jackky. So the suggestion is pay off and disconnect line while it's on its way and then turn on the phone once. Then stow it in drawer to let it sit for next 60 days. Right?

iphone is special with this reseller flex, I think ATT can not tie any reseller flex iphone to a specific ICCID, and the unlock "code" is on Apple server, ATT just sends a request.

but ATT locked android is different, it is unlocked by a physical code, the phone is tied to a specific ICCID, and I think ATT controls the unlock code

I received final invoice from verizon and looks like I am being charged activation fee despite cancelling on third day of placing order.Dont they waive automatically or do we have to talk to them for waiver?

That is right, iPhone unlocking is mostly from Apple. The last I tried unlocking Android was s22 plus beginning of this year which worked for me. Its possible that what you are thinking is correct and it does not work anymore. If I do a deal again I'll make sure to update.

Any success in paying it off? I called the number and was sent a link to the Verizon Assistant. If I check it through the Verizon Assistant, it says the phone is paid off and no payment is needed.
Faced same issue, so went ahead and canceled the line. We may get the payoff amount as the final bill.

I did the same. Since there was no device agreement generated in my case, I may get lucky with a free phone. You can check your online account as well for a device agreement.

Pertaining to Verizon, seems to me many of you are confusing phone activation with line activation. The line is activated when your phone ships, the phone is activated when you turn it on. If you cancel the line before turning the phone on, the 60 day unlock timer never started. You may get stuck with a Verizon locked phone, which may be difficult to unlock later since it becomes a BYOD phone.
OMG, that's exactly what I did, cancelling without turning on the phone. What can I do now?
