Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

How to double check if phone line has been disconnected?

you should double check, the first agent tricked me by cancelling the line next month and I had to contact them second time to cancel the line after two days

For those of you who have received your phones, are they new phones in sealed boxes?
I ordered a purple and a starlight but didn't catch the description of the starlight saying it's refurbished. Both are supposed to arrive tomorrow so I'll let you know. But would be curious to hear from anyone that ordered a starlight 256gb.

I am curious about other colors as well. Hard to believe they sell refurbished phones. This could be fraud.

Pertaining to Verizon, seems to me many of you are confusing phone activation with line activation. The line is activated when your phone ships, the phone is activated when you turn it on. If you cancel the line before turning the phone on, the 60 day unlock timer never started. You may get stuck with a Verizon locked phone, which may be difficult to unlock later since it becomes a BYOD phone.

Thank you. My account is showing disconnected but I got disconnected with them on chat. So, I am confused. I will call again to make sure I am disconnected.

Thanks for the information regarding ATT's early unlock, I went with them based on that.

A couple of questions if you don't mind:

1) Any trouble with paying the device off? Did you need to contact support over phone? Success with live chat? Or even logged into myATT and did it over the site? And last part: How did the activation and prorated plan fee work? Refunded or had to pay both?

2) Did you wait the 24 hours after paying the device off? If someone were to start the unlock process, will it error out and have to wait a specified time?

Thanks again Smilie
No trouble paying it off. I paid mine off on my online account as soon as it showed up. It was just under 24hrs but it was from one day to the next from paying off to when i unlocked. I didn't cancel the line because im trying another device hopefully but if you do it under the 3 days you shouldn't be charged an activation fee

Couple of things about unlocking:
For me it always worked with Android phones and many have reported it to be working but YMMV.

what do you mean by Android ?

1 you mean this unlock method can be applied to ATT subsidized/locked Android phone

2 you mean this unlock method can be done by swapping the esim to an unlocked esim-capable Android phone

Can anyone please confirm if disconnecting the line before turning on phone will create issues in unlocking the phone later on?

1. Yeah, see https://slickdeals.net/f/17237209-samsung-galaxy-s22-128gb-phantom-black-at-amp-t-149?attrsrc=Thread%3AExpired%3ATrue&src=SiteSearchV2Algo1 for example.

2.Yes, or an iPhone but YMMV and I have only done physical SIM swap with Android phones but someone in this thread confirmed it worked for them with iPhone and eSIM

Yes, don't disconnect the line before activating the phone. The phone needs to be registered in the network before you can request unlock or do SIM swap

Yes, if you do this right, you will have to pay only couple of days worth of plan.
